Breast feeding in public...?!

Question: Today I was at the hospital, and there was this woman, and she was sitting right in front of me, and like all of a sudden she just starts to breast feed her baby. I moved, but it bothers me, who would let their boobs hang out in public, do you think its rights to breast feed in public, I mean she could of at least put something over her.

i breast feed my son in public if need be because im not gonna let him go hngry but i would have been discreat about it. i was in burger king 1 day and my son needed feeding so i got my partner to hold up a blanket like a screen so no1 could see. but each to their own everyone has boobs, i dont think moters should be frownd apon for feeding their babies like that

I also feel uncomfortable when a woman breastfeeds and is NOT covering herself. But watch out the lactivists will attack you on this. The la leches are pretty militant and over the top on the right to do it anywhere, anyway etc. And they will try to make you feel like the jerk. But you are not alone. It is just common decency to try to cover up when possible or go to a nonpublic place when possible.

Was she at least wearing a bra? Well it is gross, but people do it!

I think in hospital its ok, so it bothers you?

yeah ik i agree.
I think its pretty imature of them
That happened to me but she put something over it .

ya that is really nasty.... ive seen some women do that to and i couldnt stand it so what i did was i politely asked her to either go to the bathroom and feed the baby real quick or to cover herself up with a blanket or jacket

In both Australia and the USA, it's illegal to prevent a woman from breastfeeding her baby in public, or to ask her to move somewhere else. It's called discrimination.

Maybe ask yourself why it bothers you and why she should cover herself? In our society we sexualise breasts, but in many other cultures women go topless and to them it's just the same as a man going topless. And I'm sure this woman wasn't exposing much of her breasts anyway - when I breastfed my babies, only a tiny bit of breast was shown, and this was usually covered by the baby's head.

Breast milk is the healthiest thing for a baby to be drinking, and babies (especially really little ones) need to be fed on demand. So she was just looking after her baby's needs in the best way that she could.

And if it does bother you, then its easier for you to move than for her to.

And to brittany - would you eat your lunch in a bathroom?

babywait - it's common decency to just get up and move, or not look, if it bothers you to see a woman feed her baby.

Breastfeeding is natural and in my opinion the best thing you can do for your child. I have no problem with women breastfeeding in public.
I do believe that if your breast will be showing you should throw a receiving blanket over your exposed part of the breast to stave of ooglers. I have 3 children and the last two I breastfed for months. I had no problems keeping my breast out of public eye.

I breastfeed my daughter & I don't like to do in public at all. It's embrassing, people watching my boobs.Luckily I live in UAE & it's a muslim country so they have a separate room for breastfeeding in all the malls. At the airport there is a female prayer room so there is no huge issue here. But sometimes you really don't have an option,I had to fly to Canada when my daughter was 4 months old & I had to breastfeed her in the plane & at the airport. But I tried my level best to do it where they would be really less people.

I think it would be better to have a cloth or something.

I know. I feel the same way. It doesn't bother me when they cover it, because, you know, that's life. Even animals do it. My aunt always breast feeds, but she covers it...or she goes upstairs! It's also natural to pee and healthy for you, because you know, you can get a bladder infection if you don't...so, does that mean that a guy should let his balls hang out xD It's life...it's our bodies! xD That's the way I look at it...Yes, feed your baby. Breast feed if that is what you wish to do, but at least cover it with a blanket or something.
