Can you have a pap smear when you're on your period?!

Question: I was just wondering because I'm going in for birth control the 10th and I usually start my period on that day/today/tomorrow.

So can I still get one?

Generally the doc likes you to get a pap smear while you're not bleeding, since the blood and endometrium make it very difficult to get any useful results. They do make exceptions for women who have menstrual problems such that they're continually bleeding, but that doesn't seem to be your case.

Call up the doc's office, say "I've got an appointment for a Pap on the tenth but I'll be getting my period: would you like me to reschedule?" You will be one of many identical calls that the receptionist will get over the course of their career:)

ewww.... no you cant.

No. The blood gets on the slide and they can't look at the cells. You must reschedule.

you can but the blood can often interfere with the results. it's best to wait to avoid having to get another done because the results were bad. call your doc and see if you can move it.

Yes you can, but depends on ur doc and how comfortable u feel about gettinga pap test while on ur period :)

No the blood is slippery
