Periods and contraception?!

Question: When your on your period what actually makes you bleed? is it the lining of the womb or is it the egg.
Because i have an implant fitted, and it still makes you have periods but its supposed to stop an egg being released.
Dose this mean that an egg is being released because im having a period, or dose the lining of the womb still englarge or what ever it dose when its time for a period.???

It is the lining of your womb that causes the bleeding, it prepares itself for a pregnancy every month and is regulated by hormones.

So, when you say you have an implant fitted, what do you mean?

-If you mean a DUI, or a T-shaped metal device that gets placed in your uterus then yes, the egg still gets released and the theory is that the DUI prevents it from implanting on the wall should it be fertilized.

-If you mean implant as in those 5 rod shaped things they put just under the skin on your upper arm, then no an egg is not being released. this is hormone controlled, and these methods result in the egg not being released. (same as the pills, the patch, the shots).

The lining then is still enlarging with whatever method you use.

The linign of your womb prepares for the egg to reach it and e fertilised there. When an egg doesnt reach it in time or isnt fertilised there, the lining releases itself causing a period. To be replaced again by frsh lining which goes on to spend 3 weeks preparing for the next egg and the cycle starts again

It's the linig of the womb, because it prepares for fertilation and you're body doesn't need it if that doesn't happen. If an egg is released then it would also come out with the rest of you're period, but you will still have them even if there is no egg.

Hannah B is right but to answer your other question, no an egg isn't released at all. The lining of the womb still sheds but unfertilised egg doesn't leave the body at all

lining of the womb is coming away....that lets you know that you shouldnt be pregnant......
