How long can a tampon be left in as a precaution?!

Question: I have a feeling my period will start very soon and I am going swimming today so I would like to use a tampon even though there is no blood flow yet. Can I leave it in as long as I want to when i'm not on my period?

I have never used a tampon before by the way, i'm only 14.

Thanks

You must never have the same tampon in for more than 8 hours, you need to replace it by then. The chemicals and fibres are not native to your body, and cause a reaction called "toxic shock syndrome", which is not good! Make sure you replace the tampon with a fresh one every 8 hours.

There's a dedicated website to this, everyone who uses tampons should read up about it. http://www.tssis.com/

You should probably get the mini tampax if you haven't used them before. I think it would be ok to put a tampon in if yr not on yr period, but its advisable not to. I don't think it wud be very hygenic

up to eight hours - no longer, although I would advise 4 hours. There is still bacteria around even if your period isn't.
People will say don't use one at all but I have many times as I work as a dancer x

just take the tampon with you, pop it in before you get in the water, then remove it as soon as you get out.
your suposed to change them every 4 hours, i doubt you will be in the water for so long, so you will be fine.

6 hours is the maximum. But if you want to wear one overnight, they say that is fine. Just make sure you put a new tampon in right before you go to bed and take it out as soon as you wake up.

since you can not leave it in the vagina for more than 8 hours my girlfriend use to store one in her anus till she needed it for her vagina..then she would dislodge it from her poop hole and place it in her vagina.

don't use it longer than 8 hours

As a rule of thumb, you should leave a tampon in about 4 hours Whether you are bleeding or not, any drainage (and there is drainage between periods) is a breeding ground for bacteria. Your chances for toxic shock syndrome is probably less than during a period, but it exists nonetheless.

not more than 7-8 hours ... don't keep it longer ..

hi i would take it out as soon as you can as when its inside you its also drying up your natural secretions and as you are only 14 well you dont want to get any infections
good luck if not swimming why not use a slim towel like always towels/pads instead and you use the tampon when you have started your period

You should be fine for swimming but take it out and put a pad on as soon as you get changed

NEVER leave it in they have been known to kill (YES KILL) women who have forgotten to take them out due to sceptic shock. I would actually say you are a little young to use tampons

No offence but young girls can be very forgetful as other things take over their minds like boys paying them attention, shopping and hanging around with their mates. Just be careful and change it as soon as your out of the pool
