In all honesty, yes, I've been with a man who was just too large for me to handle. While sex was possible, it was extremely unpleasant even with an entire bottle of lube. It didn't take long for me to realize that there was simply no way that relationship could work.

If she's a virgin too then it's probably going to hurt the first time, possibly the first few times until she develops some scar tissue where the hymen was. It's normal.
A vagina is very muscular and can stretch quite a lot. If you're patient and gentle then you will adapt to each other.
