Stress = late periods?!

Question: i was under a lot of stress this month. im on ortho tricyclin-lo and i never miss a day, always on time. but this month was a wreck for me.. stress wise and then i got the flu. and i was seriously dehydrated.. and im on my placebo pills now.. and its wednesday.. and im gettin kinda worried my periods not showing up.. ive been cramping and feeling like its gonna start so im keeping my fingers crossed. i get so paranoid with taking the pill i wish it would stop. but im so good about taking it and protecting myself. (been on it for 11 months) yet the first 6 were perfect on time periods. and then they were a day late, or a day early, and i could never keep track, as long as i got them. but it scares me they arent regular. is that normal? or does it go along with how much stress you have in your life?

Yes, stress can make periods late. A while back I was stressed about so much stuff. I had strep and mono and on top of that I was worrying about which college to choose and my period was about 2 weeks late. I'm on birth control too. The more I kept stressing about not having my period, the longer it was until I started. Don't worry.. It's probably not anything abnormal. Good Luck!

Stress can have an affect on your period. IF there is a chance you could be pregnant take a test. but if not, just wait it out for a couple more days, and if still no period, go to the gyno.

sounds normal. stress will definitely throw things off.

Stress can make you irregular...but usually the hormones in the pill are strong enough to override the stress effect. That being said though...you could still be a little later than usual because of stress.

I would note, too, that if you still have placebo's you aren't technically late yet. You might be late for your body, but according to the pills, you're not yet late. Good luck.

Stress definitely means late periods. But if your period still hasn't shown up a week after you finish your placebo pills, get a pregnancy test, especially if you're still feeling like you should be getting your period any day now (cramping, mood swings, sore breasts, fatigue).

Have you been taking antibiotics/antidepressants/any other medications, or did you forget to take your pill for a day or two? All of these things could screw up your birth control and could put you at risk for pregnancy. Read up as much as you can on your birth control, too. It's amazing the answers you can find in there.
