Ok.. yes you should carry a pad with you. And anyone who says you shouldn't at your age is plain nuts no offense. You don't want to be at school and start and have nothing and then have to be embarrassed by asking a teacher for a pad or having an accident where the whole class sees this. Trust me. You should talk with your parent or guardian about this. But yes I would get a pad or pantyliner to start with. Tampons are not always safe to use. The first time I used them I feel I was on the verge of having TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) So I am scared to use them really and I am now 29. I use Kotex brand with Wings because they are thin and comfortable. I use the medium flow ones but you probably don't need that starting out. But yes definately I would carry something with you in your purse or bookbag. Then when you start mark it on the calendar or someplace and keep track of them so you can learn when your cycle becomes normal. You may not start for years some girls don't start until they are 14-17 years old. but some start around 9 or 10 so it's good to be safe and protected and have something so you don't have to be put into a difficult situation if you did start. Good luck young lady...

You don't need to carry them with you! Every girl starts her period at different ages, some later than others. However, if you must buy some now, I would go with pads, not tampons. Any brand is good, for example always or bodyform.

hello
This is no big deal. I got my period when i was 11 but my best friend was 13. you can carry a pad around with you if you would like, but it could be unused for a long time. Dont worry about this. All us girls are different and things will happen when they are ready.

deffo start with pads, tampons are better for later on when your used to ur period, 11 is quite an early start most start at 13-14 but if you want to carry a pad or 2 in your bag theres nothing wrong with that, its good to be prepared!

plus you will probably get some discharge a few days before, just your body letting you kno your periods on the way!

meanwhile make the most of not having one!

You may not start for quite a while, but if you want to be prepared, it wouldn't hurt anything to have a pad with you in your purse just in case.

tampons are not good and anyway your bff started way 2 early and this may b because she eats 2 much sweets if u do the same thing then maybe you should stop for a bit as starting period is nothing great but pains that u are guna have until you grow up. I started my period wen i was 14 i'm guna b 16 in may

Pads are the best thing to start with.

You will know that you need to start getting ready for your periods to start when you start to develop, i.e. your breasts start growing, you have hair under your arms, things like that.
I started my periods when I was 11 and truthfully apart from feeling sick all day I had no idea that my periods were about to start.

erm....... i dnt think that ur gonna need 2 carry them around just in case.. just cause ur friend has started doesnt mean u will (lucky u).. when u first start ur more likely 2 spot bleed not very heavily therefore you'll have time to sort yourself out.... pads or tampons? can u at least wait 2 start u period b4 thinking about that

start with the pad, so you can see how heavy your flow is.
do you have a Mother.????
Don't think that cuz your friend just got her period so will you..that is not gonna happen.
just keep your purse the way it is..LOL
if you so start some day ...well you can always borrow something, or go to the nurses office...cuz I am thinking you are in grade school.
You girls need to talk to your Mothers my goodness.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Pads are probably better, you may feel nervous with the tampons at first. But, definately have 2 or 3 in your purse, just in case you get it. My daughter did not get hers till she was 14. I however, got mine when I was 11 also. Good luck.

Don't worry about starting, I was 9 and my cousin was 17!

You probably won't know when you are going to start (I didn't) and they were VERY irregular at first.

I started off on pads just because i was scared of the idea of tampons but its really up to you (Tampons are'nt scary and you can't feel them inside)

I have always used Always pads and Tampax Tampons and neither have caused me problems

And its better the later you get your periods, less painful months ! Hope this helps

Woah there!
You are only 11.
You can start any time, but the average is 9-16.
I didn't start until I was 14. Don't be rushing into it, your still a kid, enjoy not having it! But when you do start, use pads because with tampons you can get TSS (toxic shock syndrome) and you won't need tampons badly. Plus pads are way more comfortable. I will never use tampons because of TSS. You have nothing to worry about! Some girls started as late as 20. You'll know when you are getting ready to have your period, you know, hair, sweat more, discharge, developing, you'll know. It's not a bad idea to be ready but for now, you probably still have a ways to go so I wouldn't think much about it.

It could be a long time, but trust me you WILL know!

You'll get your period whenever you'll get it. Different girls get it a different ages. No need to be paranoid about having pads or tampons with you. When you first get it is not heavy, don't worry about thinking that you will spot and people will see it. Nothing that heavy will happen.
Just enjoy being 11 and when you get your period you'll think about what to wear! :)

Hi, girls get their periods at all different ages, it can be anywhere between 9 and 19! But the average age is around 12 or 13 so relax! you have plenty of time yet. There are some indicators that you might be getting your period soon; boobs, discharge, pubic hair ect. Don't worry about your friend getting her first, it's not all that great to be honest. It's a good idea to be prepared and carry some pads :-) When I first started my period I used pads for a year and then started using tampons, however it's entirely your choice whether you use pads or tampons. If your periods are very light at first or the idea of tampons seems a bit intimidating, then maybe it would be best to start with pads.

Darling Louise, yes it would be a good idea to carry some pads in your bag but put them in a make-up bag so that they stay clean. There isn't any sure way of knowing when you will be ready as each female is different. When your body is ready is when it will happen. As for tampons they can be tricky to put in properly so it might be an idea to get used to your periods first, but you could try Lilets which are quite small and see how you get on. Good luck my darling. xx

Well my opintion, start off with pads. And you may want to just have one in your backpack or locker just in case you do start. You willn't really know when it will start, it just happens! Everyone starts at a different time, for example I started when I was 10 but my sister didn't start till she was 13.
You want to be prepared for when ever it does happen! And don't be scared, it's just a part of life!
You may want to talk to your mom so she can prepare you for whats to come, and get you supplied!

Actually, I wouldn't be suprised if she got her period soon. I would start carrying around a pad (NOT tampon..it is painful, wait til you are not a virgin..lol). ANYWAY, Since I am assuming that she hangs out with her 'bff' constantly, somehow that does have something to do with when you get your period (but maybe not your first period). My best friend in high school and I used to always have our period at the same time (she would get hers, the next day I got mine). I read somewhere that females that are close (close friends, girlfriends, lovers, family-livein) often get their periods at the same..Strange?!!?

U wont really know when u will getting yr 1st time. It's ok if u wanna bring along 1 pc of pad in yr bag, if the convenience store/ market is far away from u are now. For the 1st time, pads is better & easier to wear since tampon needs some practise. My 1st time period came when i was 12. My sister's 10. My other friend's was 14. Dont worry every body has their own body metabolism, so cant really predict/ control when yr 1st time will come. Hope this will help :)

u don't really need to carry a pad around with you. its not gonna hit you all at once without some warning first.

your 11 correct?if you are u should not use TAMPONS your way to young but dont worry enjoy while you can !!! without ur period bcuz my grandma sayz once u get it u dont want it ! lol but dont use tampons u can get tss (Toxic Shock Syndrome)

hope dis helped <3

you can carry a pad with you but for all you know you could be carrying it for the next 2 years.
you won't know when youre going to start it just happens.
definately start out with ORGANIC 100% cotton pads.
anything else will put you at risk for a yeast infection or other infections.
once you're comfortable enough, start using tampons, but again, use 100% cotton non-bleached, because anything else can and will give you a yeast infection and those are definately not fun at all.

edit: kathy p... what the **** are you talking about? tampons don't hurt if inserted correctly and you don't have to wait til you're not a virgin to use them, tampons don't go that far up, plus they are not the width of what an average male member would be... don't give the girl false information!

its ok...normaly girls get it from the age of 11-13..it'll be ok to carry a pad..but no tampoons to start with..for the begining you wont really know when you are gonna have them..and even after you have your first..there might be a gap of few months till you have the second one...

use pads the first time but ya from now on i would start carraying around a "saftey bag"

when i was 11 we got given free pads 'just in case' id put some in your school bag, and start with pads.
the biggest show is a white discharge in your pants you get it for a while before you start some people get lower back ache or belly ache a few days before they start.

Btw you can start from any age between 8 - 18
