When should I take my pill -- help?!

Question: Like a dummy I forgot to ask my doc about this. She is taking me off of yaz because it is making me sick and switching me to ortho tri-cyclen lo. I am on day 6 of yaz though. Should I just start on day 6 with the ortho? I am not taking this for birth control and am not having sex. Just to regulate my period.

If you're not sexually active, you can just start at the beginning of the new pill. The idea behind telling people to start a pill on the first day of their period is to make sure they are not pregnant.

Either that, or start new after your next period.

Wouldn't it be better to just call your doctor? She won't mind.

And no one here knows your medical history.

As soon as you finish the sugar pills on the yaz then that Sunday start the new pack. I use to be on the pill for the same reason and they had to change the type I was using and that's when they had me start the new one.

Think you should start the new pack only after your next period.

Whether you are taking this for birth control or just to regulate your period, you need to make sure that the two products are safe to mix in your system. You need to consult your personal doctor that gave you the prescription before you take the new one. If the old one is making you sick then don't take any more, especially if your not having sex and don't need it for protection from pregnancy. All that will happen is that you will miss one day of taking a pill and that will not make you sick, but mixing them could. The doctor might tell you just to skip a day and then start your new prescription.

I would just start with the ortho now. Just know it will affect your ovulation, you may have crazy periods and have to be careful if you do have sex. It is ok to drop the others and start your new pack, your period will probably be late or very light the first month.
