What is an ovarian cyst and why would I have to go to the doctors if it has rupt!

Question: If the cyst has ruptured, why do I need to go to the doctors? Doesn't that mean it will go away? I was in so much pain last night...

Hi there. I currently am dealing with an ovarian cyst as well. The other day I had inmense pain and just 'knew' that it had ruptured (lots of blood, lots of pain, and white clotting stuff that came out--sorry so graphic). So I called my OBGYN just to inform her. Well she wanted to see me the next week to make sure that during the ruption internal other parts didn't get damaged and to make sure it was all gone. So I went, proud as could be because I was sure I had ruptured it (had been trying for 6 months with b/c pills). Well I was suprised. The cyst had only lost 5% of the size. So now I know that it did not completely rupture :( I will be going in for surgery next month to have it removed.

I would tell you to do the following:

1) Call your OBGYN and inform them.
2) Make an appointment to make sure that it is indeed gone.
3) Keep track of any symptoms such as fever, chills, nausea, or vomiting--these could indicate an internal infection has occured and you need to seek medical help immediately.
4) Take ibuproferen or tylenol to control the pain.

So to answer your questions:
--why do I need to go to the doctors?--To make sure that it was indeed a cyst rupture and not anything else, and to ensure that if it did rupture that everything else is ok.

--Doesn't it mean that it will go away?--If it completely ruptured it does, but in my case it did not, only very partially.

Sorry about your pain, I hope this helps some.
Take care,
Erika
