I was 8 1/2 when I started growing pubic hair and thought it was odd. I asked my mom certain questions but she would say, "I'll tell you when you're older". My other experience is was really embarrasing. When I was 11 I had to go to a clinic for a free school physical and the dr. asked me to cough after he pulled down my underwear and pressed down near my lower belly. My mom didn't even talk to me about the hair growth. She told my older sister what kind of things the dr. was looking for and she said something was negative and I thought she was telling my sister that I was naked because at that age I didn't know if negative was associated with nakedness.
I was 12 when I got my first period and I was just getting up to get ready for school. My mom handed me a bunch of panty liners because she didn't have anything bigger and she used tampons. She should have bought normal pads for me so that when I got my first period, I would have had something. I leaked in school during my second period and one girl came up to me and said I had blood on the back of my pants. I raised my hand as we were working on a worksheet and when I raised my hand, I pretended I needed help with the worksheet since I didn't want to get up. When the substitute teacher came up to my desk, I whispered in her ear that I had blood on the back of my pants. I got a pass to go to the office and I thought I would be going home (since the entire class noticed as I was walking out the class) but my mom just brought me a fresh outfit and new underwear. I also got a decent sized pad from the school nurse. When I got back to the next class where most of the people also switched to, they started teasing this one girl and saying that she would probably cry when she got her period. Apparently the math teacher also knew or heard what was going on and he said something for the kids to stop teasing this other girl. I actually got a laugh out of it since I handled it so well and didn't get teased by it. I guess the boys who used to tease me every minute they could decided to see how I would react and they chose someone else to pick on. It was actually a lucky and good day for me because not a single person teased me. I felt confident and glad I didn't go home. If I had gone home, maybe the kids in the class would have thought I would have gone home crying. I also never really developed breast as I'm a size 34AAA. It's very hard for me to find a bra but I'm glad I'm not bigger. It's fun to be flat and is also less weight on my back.
Fortunately I told my first daughter about periods and why they happen a few months before her 8th birthday. I also bought pads for her before she started her first period and also put some in her backpack if it showed up at school. Both my kids pediatrician and my gyn dr. told me that it's normal for girls to start menstruating at age 8. It could be due to the hormones in the chicken. I'm not a racist but I have to say something. I once saw a school parade filled with only black girls and were middle school aged. Just about every one of them had big breasts. I don't know if it's true or not but I've heard that a lot of black people eat a lot of chicken. Since my daughter ate a lot of chicken tenders, or chicken fingers everytime we ate out, I think it may have had something to do with her early development. Her breasts are four times the size of mine. She's 11 now. My now 2nd daughter is 8 years old and already knows about periods. She's also developing breasts.
One funny thing is that when I was about 9 I asked my mom what something that looked like a big piece of chalk wrapped up in a kitchen drawer was and she said she would tell me when I was older. I finally realized what it was many years later when she got me a box of tampons. I still cannot forget about how big that piece of "chalk" really was and why it was in a kitchen drawer. I know my mom used chalk for sewing and I wanted to draw with it. I don't know how my mom would have reacted if I opened it up to get ready to use it on my chalk board and showed her a tampon asking her what it was. LOL

If you are meaning menstrual cycle wise, I first got mine when I was 9. I can't exactly remember when I developed breasts though. They just happened lol.
eek. i was eight years old. no crap.
my first period was on christmas day. it made my mom and grandma cry. and my brother puke. lol he heard all the commotion and asked mom what it was and she wouldnt tell him.. so he eavesdropped. it made him sick to his stomach. and he was older than me.
13, it was 2 days before the first day of 8th grade. But nothing really funny happened. I thought tho, that if I didn't tell my mom, it'd go away.

I was 12. It was a Monday when I get my first period. I was in the bathroom getting ready to go to school. My dad had bbq'ed the day before. I was wondering how on earth I got bbq sauce in my underwear! Good thing my mom was home to explain.
I was in 7th grade. I was sitting in science class and I felt a weird wetness, kind of a gush. I quick made my way to the bathroom and wrapped my underwear up with a ton of toilet paper. But it was really no biggie. I'm 31 and still waiting for my b()()bs to come in ;)

i didnt get my first period when i was about 12 and a half but i got boobs when i was 11 or 12 :D dont ask how :P
Eleven and a half, and nothing funny about it! I thought I was dying! Was my first week at a new school, ugh!!
