I got mine on a boat haha lol It was painful for a few weeks before and quite bad on the day so I did get warning.
I started when I was 11 (I'm16 now) and I was terrified lol But I told my mum and realised I had nothing to worry about.
I get pretty bad pains but I went to the doctor and i'm on pills which are great!
As for school, make sure you have a change of underwear with you and a pad/tampon. If not just go to your school nurse or reception - I know it's embarassing but they'll understand and you won't be the first person who's asked them =)

Don't worry about starting, you get used to it after a while.

It wasn't that awful. I felt really crampy the night before & jst woke up with it. If you hide a tampon/pad & an extra pair of panties in the back of you rlocker you should really be fine.

honestly..the night i got my first period was the worst pain i had ever felt in my life..i couldnt sleep and was scared something was happening..i was lucky i got it in the morning before school...

bring a pad and put it in your bag just in case you ever get it.

I was 11 and staying at my brother and his girlfriends house!!!!
I knew what is was and since my parents were away in Scotland and i was in Halifax my brother and his girlfriend helped me out!!!!
I am 15 now!!!

I was 13 when I first got my period. I was at a party when I got it, but did not figure it out until I went back to my friends house to spend the night. I was actually prepared for it, and I was not embarassed.

As for the pain, I only had slight cramps, it felt more like a stomach ache then anything else.

Always carry a pad or tampon with you, whichever is your choice, in case of that emergency. If it feels like your starting and its about your time then always be cautious and check. Mine was actually non-painful at the beginning, but the further I got in having my menstral cycle, the more I actually had cramps. Have midol is your bag as well, or a store brand PMS formula, as that does help with the cramping for most people, or has for me. It can be a pain, but its natural. Almost everyone has it, females I mean, men just don't understand it.

Well....I had only been 12 for about a week when I got it at home. There was no pain then but that changed after the first couple months. I have gotten mine at school several times in the last 5 years. My advice is to put a pad/tampon in your backpack or whatever you take to school. If you do ever get it at school you will be prepared.

The day i actually got it, i was in gym class.
I actually didnt know until i went to go to the washroom, so for me, at the time it didnt hurt, but it came full on.
Then next few days hurt quite a bit, and i was at my own birthday party so that sucked. I couldnt bend, well barely, and everytime i moved it would hurt. Now it doesnt thought, and its been a bit more than a year, but my periods are irregular, heck, i forgot the last time i even got it, so im just kinda waiting. Since i am still growing, they will stay irregular for a bit..
But its all a part of growing. The first time i got it at school though, it didnt go through, if you notice it and you dont have pads, fold lots of tissue and put it on your underwear..but after that, you NEED pads,( the first time, i suggest pads) or it will go through.
Hope that helped!

I had alot of pain, but I thought my ribs were sore. It turned out that they were cramps. I was at my grandma's house, saw the blood, told my mom about it, she helped me, and here I am 5 years later and doing okay with it.
At school make sure you put pads or tampons in your backpack or purse. You'll be fine! :)

Mine was a night mare. I will not go into full details but I did get my period at school. 8th grade. My mother had never told me what to do if I got my period...so I was clueless and did not have pads or tampons with me. I wouldn't of known how to use them anyways..LOL. No pain!!! All that happened to me was I felt something wet and squeeshy (yeah I know grouse) on my undies went to rest room and there it was my period. *sigh* I did get some stomach cramps later on in the day. Just be sure to carry a tampon, or pad with you in your purse or book bag..might want to keep a fresh change of undies and pants just incase it soaked through you clothes. If you think you are getting your period soon I would start wearing a panty liner so if you do get your period that will absorb it until you get a pad or tampon. Also carry with you midol or pamrin or tylenol for stomach cramps. Good Luck

when i got my first period i was 13...i went out with my cousin and after i got back i went to the bathroom there it was....so disgusting...anyways...yeah it was scary at first...

i woke up in the morning to my first period. nothing really big to speak of. my lower back hurt like somebody had kicked me. but that's it. i have never got cramps or bloating etc. until my early 30s then I have started to get massive bloating, like 3 - 4 pounds.

unfortunately unless you are on birth control, which I am hoping you are not, you cannot predict when or where you will have your period. Mine to this day, almost always start over night.

If you are unsure, carry some pads in your bag or put them in your locker, and that way if it does happen, you will be prepared. or the school nurse or somebody can help.
