Lauren, I totally understand what you are saying!

Although she is your mum, it is very embarrassing.

Why don't you try texting her during your dinner at school.
" Mum, can you nip into Tesco and get me some pads, please? Thanks :D "

That's really all you have to say - She won't mind, your mum is a female as well, she has gone/does have periods as well!

You can get samples off the Always website - but what will you do when they are posted to you?

Failing that, have a nosey around in the bathroom cabinets and your mum's bedside draw - shes bound to have some.
That's what I used to do when I was too embarrassed to ask my mum!

Also, once you've asked her once, you'll feel so much better - and feel comfortable asking her again.

You dont know how to ask your mum? I dont understand, she should be getting them for you. Ask her!

Ask your school... But yes, these things arent cheap. Why dont you just ask your mom? or better yet go through the cupboards in the bathroom, im sure she has some around smoewhere.

how old are you Lauren for heavens sake just ask your mum

just ask your mum if she can get you some towels :S

No hun, I am afraid there is not but you have to ask your mum to buy you some. She won't mind.. it's her job

if you go to the brand sites like libra and tampax you can sometimes get samples sent out to you...your mum will totally understand i know its embaressing but its not like asking your dad shes a girl too..

Just ask your mum, be blunt about it.

do what i do go to the nurses office or look in moms purse because there are always extra in there

Sweetheart, your mum went through this too, so she will be expecting you to ask her one day!

Alternatively, speak to the nurse at school (if there is one). They may be able to help you out. But believe me, ask your mum - what's the worst that can happen?? She isn't going to say no!

listen i totally understand not wanting to ask your mum... try always free samples, or type in google free sanitary towels... if you type in www.bebo.com it usually comes up with a link for a sample of new always fresh pads... try it out, but the link may not be valid anymore! or sign up on a website called being girl! click on vip and become a member! they send you free samples all the time!
hope i helped.... olivia.x.

I know what its like because i was scared to tell my mom to and my sister had me tell her for her, but trust me there is nothing to be afraid of just pull her in to your room or somthing say "mom i started and i need some stuff" she wont freak she may hug you but thats about it. good luck!

also, if you email the pad companies, like always, kotex, etc...they may send you some realllly good coupons.

How to ask your mom - "Mom, can you pick me up some pads please?" - Your mother has gone through this too, she knows that you have periods as does everyone else, think about it and ask yourself why you feel embarrassed, you'll find that you really have no reason to feel embarrassed.

Worse comes to worse you won't be able to deprogram this idea you have about periods being embarrassing, at least not until your a bit older, in which case ask a friend or older female to ask her for you or write her a note asking for pads or the money to go buy them yourself.

Commercial pads are very expensive because they are a luxury, it's not something you need so you could always go without and use something less expensive instead, you have over twenty different menstrual options to choose from so no reason why you need to use one of the most expensive.

How about you make your own pads?
It's of course a whole lot cheaper than buying pads, but also it is better for the environment as it avoids those 12,000 pads you use from clogging up landfills, it also means you cut down on the chemicals that go into the environment, the trees that get cut down, etc.

Cloth pads are better for your health as they allow air to get to your groin that helps keep you cool and dry so avoiding bacteria and yeast to grow within your vulva and vagina, it also means you aren't risking vaginal infections and toxic shock, amongst other things, from the chemicals and synthetics in commercial pads.

Cloth pads are more comfortable too, they are just like wearing cotton underwear so no feeling sweaty and dirty, no rubbing or irritation. You can make them to your own size and absorbancy, and you can use funky materials too, like the ones at Lunapads - http://www.lunapads.com
