Question: My mom don't understand how tampons work, how can i explain this type of thing to her!?
She claims only people who are not virgins use them!. And that i must of had sex, when i told her before hand that i wanted to use them since i was 16 (im now 18)!. and she claims that i will remain "open" with a tampon inside of me!. and that the tampn will get lost or stuck inside of me!. Also she claims that the string will break, and that i will have to go to the doctors!. And last of all, she claims that girls die from using tampons!. i am not scared or anything!. i really want to use them, I HATE PADS!. i just want to make her as comfortable about this as possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's your own body and you have the right to do what you want!. Tampons are cheap - buy them yourself if she won't support you!. Tell her you are going to use tampons because you want to, and that you would like her to keep an open mind!. Try printing up some statistics and showing them to her!.
Maybe even bring a friend over that uses tampons and you all can discuss what tampons advantages are (like how more comfrontable they are, you can go swimming ect ect!.!.)

Good lord, is your mom from this century!? Girl get a box of tampons and when you open it there is a instruction sheet and also information about dispelling ignorant rumors about the use of tampons!.
Tampons can not get lost inside you nor stuck!. The string is strong and will not get broken!. Girls do not die from using tampons, however back in the 70s that a high incidence of toxic shock syndrome was discussed!. The fact is that you should not use a higher absorbency than needed (ie: super plus when you only need regular) and you need to change your tampons regularly (which you will figure out as you go!. Sometimes you will need to change more frequently)

Well, since your 18 years old, your mom should let "you" decide between a tampon or pad but maybe if you all made a doc's appt!. to see a gynocologist maybe the doctor could explain to your mom that tampons can be used by virgins and that they will not get lost inside of you!. 1!. it doesnt matter if youre a virgin or not there is a small hole in your hymen which the blood passes through which is what the tampon goes through

Tell her that people who are virgins and sexually active use them!. Tampons are more comfortable and make it less likely for you to leak and make it easier to do things especially sports when you are wearing one instead of a pad!.I use them and haven't had sex!. Any girl can use them, just so long as they have the right size tampon for their body and are careful not to leave them in for too long!.You don't remain open because the vaginal muscles involuntarily hold the tampon in!. As for the string breaking, it doesn't happen very often!. Just give the string a gentle pull before you insert the tampon to make sure it's secure!. Girls don't die from using tampons unless they leave them in for too long!. The disease your mom is talking about is TSS (toxic shock syndrome)!.It only happens to careless people!. As long as you never leave the tampon in for more than eight hours you will be fine!.And don't panic if you do one day by accident!. If you do just take a break from tampons and wear a pad for the rest of the day!. You're definitely old enough to be responsible with tampons!.
