BMI question?!

Question: BMI question!?
I am 5' 9!.25", 215 lbs, and have a pear body shape!.

I have looked in numerous places online and it is said that my weight should down in between about 120 to about 160!.

To me (and my doctor & family), that range sounds unrealistic!. The range I've been given by my doctor is between 170 to about 190!.

Which weight range sounds more realistic, given my physical characteristics!? Explain your answer (and be serious here!.!.!.don't try to be a smart-aleck)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

According to my nutrition book, your BMI is around 32, which makes you obese!. Again, according to this book, you should weigh between 128 and 162 to have a BMI of 19-24!. Just remember that BMI does not take into consideration age, gender, activity level, bone structure, or muscle weight!. Therefore, it should only be considered a "guide"!. In my nursing courses, we were taught that for women, you start out with 5 feet equaling 100 lbs, and then add 5 lbs for every inch there after!. Then, because bones can be small, medium, or large, you can give yourself a range of 10% plus or minus!. So for you, you should be anywhere between 130!.5 (or 131) and 159!.5 (or 160)!. Just remember that muscle weighs more than fat!

You should go by what your doctor prescribes for you, because she/he probably knows you better!. Going from 215 to 190 would be an easier first step!. Then, from there you will be able to tell if you need to continue losing weight!. I wish the best!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you're athletic and have a muscular build, 179-190 is probably a more realistic number!. My doctor said that I was fine and I'm about 10 lbs "overweight" by the BMI calculations, but I also lift weights and run/jog 4-5 days a week and that chart doesn't take into account muscle mass!. I'd say go with what your doctor says, they have a better idea of how healthy you are than some website!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

170-190 is normal for your height - seriously if you weighed between 120 and 160 at your height you would be strangely gross and disgusting!. You are tall, that means you need to have more weight to distribute it evenly - at 120 pounds, blah, I'd hate to see what you look like!. You are perfectly normal and you are probably very beautiful don't let some stupid websites tell you differently!. It's really what's on the inside that matters anyways!. Guys don't date you depending on whether you weight 120 pounds or not, they date your for being you, fun, daring, funny - whatever they are into so just be yourself and forget everybody else :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

most pharmacies have the new scale which measures your height, weight and tell you your bmi!.
it also suggests simple diets to maintain weight or to lose weight!.
i am not sure where these figures were arrived from, and which country, but i am pretty sure that some of those figures don't match every country!.
people who live in different countries eat different foods and exercise differently!.
my suggestion is to listen to your doctor's advice because he most likely will know your family's history!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No one of your height should be 120 lbs! That is disgustingly, bones poking through skin, no feminine curves whatsoever skinny!. I know someone about that size and she looks like she could be knocked over by a gentle breeze lol!.

OK, the truth about BMI: It's deceitful! Don't even bother with it! Why is it deceitful!? Well, muscle weighs more than fat!. In my college health class, we had to do BMI's, one of the guys in my group was a football player-- but solid muscle!. According to his BMI, he's "morbidly obese"!. But it fails to mention that he's like 4% body fat and in excellent health!.

I'm 5'5" and also pear shape!. I weigh 133 lbs!. I'm bony and flat chested up top and I have a "ghetto booty"!. Even though that's not what society says looks good, I love the way I look!. I'm not keen on numbers (weight, BMI, etc!.)!. I try to be healthy!. To me, that's beautiful!. Look at Queen Latifah, when I saw her on a Jenny Craig commercial, I thought, "She sold out!" but then I listened to it and said her size is "a size healthier" and I thought, "Wow, what a good role model"!.

Just eat healthy (lots of fiber and protein and avoid saturated fat, transfat, junk food and sodas-even diet soda-!.) I bet your water weight will melt off in a couple of weeks!. You'll look and feel a lot healthier!. I think 170 is a good goal for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
