Approximately 600,000 American women will undergo a hysterectomy this year!. What is startling to realize is that in more than one third of these cases, women will suffer diminished sexual feelings or desires (Dranov)!. Much of this loss of sexual desi re is related to the type of hysterectomy that is performed!. There are three major types of hysterectomy: total, subtotal and radical!. In radical hysterectomies, both the ovaries and tubes are removed!. In total hysterectomy, the ovaries and tubes may o r may not be removed!. The removal of a woman's ovaries can be detrimental to her sex drive due to the fact that ovaries function to secrete estrogen and androgen (a hormone linked to sex drive)!. The loss or decreased availability of these hormones facil itates the need for hormone replacement therapy to make a woman feel normal again!. Other factor which can contribute to hysterectomy related loss of sexual drive are: partner relationships, frequency of sexual intercourse prior to surgery, and amount of counseling and support from doctors and friends!. If these factors are not positive, women will suffer adverse affects such as decreased sexual drive and depression!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

if your ovaries are staying you WILL NOT experience a lowered sex drive!. Your hormones come from your ovaries and that is where your sex drive comes from!. I had a total hysterectomy- ovaries and cervix taken also- and I'm fine!. My doctors had been trying to get me to have a hysterectomy since I was 27 years old because of all kinds of problems, but I was scared, too!. Finall, when I was 50 it became an emergency and I had no choice!.!.!.!.!. I wish I had done it sooner and not suffered all those years! My daughter had to have one at the age of 28 and she's fine- they left her ovaries, too!. If you are suffering, DON'T- just do it and get it over with!. Yes, it hurts for a few days pretty badly and then more mildly for a few weeks, but then it's over and it's really wonderfully freeing! Good luck with whatever you decide!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not quite sure how to answer!. You did not include your age or the reason your Dr thinks that you need the surgery!. I had a hyster and both of my ovaries and tubes removed at the same time!. Yes I experienced a decrease in my sex drive!. I never was sure if it was due to the surgery or to my age!. This is something that you need to discuss with the Dr!. A second opinion from another Dr might also help you!. IF you can't discuss this with your Dr you definitely need to find another Dr that you can discuss it with!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I am from Missouri, land of great women huh!
I had a hysterectomy at age 32, it was the best thing I ever did!. I no longer had periods to worry about, not longer had to worry about getting pregnant, it did not make me lose my sex drive, if anything, I think it made me more aggressive, more freer, if you know what I mean!.
Once you have one, you wont go nuts, you wont become a *****, my mother used to say it will ruin you as a woman, but then she was from the old school!.!.!.!.!.!.if your doctor suggest it, then do it!. Do take heed about not doing anything to strenous for 6 weeks, it sounds crazy, but listen to them!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Why does your doctor want you to have a Hysterectomy!? Do you have serious issues with Pelvic Pain due to Fibroid!? Ovarian Cysts!? Endometriosis!? If you are in a lot of pain, having a Hysterectomy might be the best answer for you!. I've had it and it wasn't so bad!. Your sex drive does decrease a little!. But if you are having pelvic pain you might already be having sex during sexual intercourse!? So it wouldn't matter much!. You want to enjoy it right!? Feel free to write me back with any more questions!. Sometimes they can keep your ovaries so that you still release hormones and therefore don't come into such an abrupt Menopause!. Research and read as much info!. as you can on the matter!. Best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Will you be leaving your ovaries or are they going to be removed, too!? Removing one or both ovaries will decrease your sex drive, as they produce sex hormones!. If they are removed, you will have to take hormone replacement therapy!.
Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
