Hi Mandy,
This is a very common problem, after puberty you stop producing as many hormones and start having symptoms like this!. I went to a Dr!. to and the hormone treatment side effects were worse than the problem!. I looked into alternative solutions and these are the best!.
If it is a progesterone deficiency or estrogen excess, try using chaste tree berry extract-* Vitex agnus-castus( available at most whole foods stores), which helps increase progesterone via an effect on the pituitary hormone prolactin, This usually works!. Native American women would chew evening primrose seeds to relieve PMS!. The benefit may derive from gamma-linoleic acid(GLA), which is a fatty acid abundant in the seeds that help the body make needed hormones!.
You might try teas also!. Here are some I use!.
Tormentil Tea-high tannin content alleviates cramps
11/3 oz tormentil
3/4 oz elecampane root
3/4 oz lemon balm leaves
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 heaping teaspoon of tormentil leaves, allow to steep for 10 min, strain and drink as hot as possible, or add all ingredients to a tea ball, boil 2 mins
steep 5 mins and drink hot!.
This tea has a very relaxing effect on the smooth muscles, it helps alleviate painful menstruation!.
Vervain tea-tannins and bitters for cramps, iridoid glycosides activate female hormones, very calming and gentle
11/2 oz dried vervain leaves
1 oz chamomile
1/2 oz spearmint
Valerian tea-the essential oil in valerian caontains isovaleric acis, whis=ch has a direct effect on the central nervous system!. The tea owes its calming and relaxing effects to a group of agents called valepotriates, that are only found in Valerian!. The interaction of the compounds gives the tea its balancing, revitalizing effect!.
21/2 oz Valerian root
1 oz lemon-balm
The relaxing effects of the Valerian and lemon balm on the body and spirit are thought to complement each other well!.
Preparing and drinking this tea will help you deal with unforseen periods of stress and anxiety!.
