Question about Depo-Provera and weight gain?!

Question: Question about Depo-Provera and weight gain!?
I've been on the birth control shot, Depo-Provera, for at least two years now and one of it's side effects is change in weight!. Apparently, a lot of women do gain weight while using this particular method of birth control!. Over the past couple of months, I've began to find stretch marks forming on my body and I'm only seventeen!. I now use a massage cream for stretch marks twice a day!.

I am told that it could be because of the shot and that it's odd for me to never have a period!. I've gained at least 10-15 pounds in a short period of time and it's quite upsetting!. I'm no longer comfortable with my body at all!. Should I stay on the shot and invest in a gym membership, or should I change methods!? Please help!. :|

Answers:
Depo-Provera causes weight gain in almost all women and that weight gain only increases over the years!. With long term use, it also causes bone loss!. The answer to this question depends on you!. If you come off of the depo, are you capable of remembering to take a pill everyday!? Sounds easy, but a lot of people mess up on birth control pills!. Birth control pills also generally do not cause weight gain contrary to what a lot of people say!. In fact, I lost weight when I started Yasmin!.

I would talk to your Dr!. about your concerns!. If the other options don't seem to be something that could work for you, I would stay on the Depo!. You'll gain a LOT more weight if you get pregnant!. Oh, and don't join a gym unless you are SURE you are going to take advantage of it!. Working out is great for you even if you DONT want to lose weight!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i was on the depo shot and gained a lot ov weight it also stopped my periods aswell (which was great) but i came off it and went on the oral pill, which is annoying to take everyday but i lost a little bit of weight coming off the depo the only thing i didnt like coming off the depo was waiting for my periods to return which took about 3/4 months and they were really heavy ,theres no harm going to the gym if anything it will keep you fit ,best of luck!!!!!!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The place I got it from told me that, I should just really watch what I eat and take in all the calcium!. I think you should, try another month, and see what happens!. Just be really careful what you eat!. Don't drink alot of soda, and don't eat alot of junk food Stick with the veggies =] I been loosing weight since I started it, But thats only because I cut out alot of soda, and junk food!. Though I do have my bings!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
