Periods - What Are My Options?!

Question: Periods - What Are My Options!?
My period is regular and lasts the general 5 days but for the first couple of days, It's really heavy and tends to clot alot!. I also spend the first day in bed with severe stomach cramping and unbearable aching in my thighs!.

I'm planning on joining the army within the next 9 months and can only see my periods getting in the way!.
What are the more suitable options for either lightening them or stopping them completely!? I'm thinking about trying the contraceptive implant!. Is this a bit drastic!?

Thanks xWww@Answer-Health@Com

There are several different types of hormonal birth control that can alleviate these symptoms or make you have fewer periods altogether!. I would try a low-dose birth control pill to start with, because you need to know how you will react emotionally before taking a high-dose injection of hormones like the Depo shot!. (Or the implant!.) The Depo shot eventually stops your periods, in most cases, and pills like Seasonale make you have it only ever 4 months!. However, you may find that a low-dose pill alleviates your symptoms so much that you don't feel the desire to stop your cycle anymore!.

I personally can't deal with hormonal birth control, even though I have painful periods and the pain almost disappeared when I took the pill!. It turns me into a depressed and anxious emotional mess, and I can't have that at all since I work in law enforcement!. Just something to consider - if you want to go with the hormones, just be sure that you know exactly how you will react to them before starting a military career!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If getting the implant helps, then no, I don't think it's too drastic, especially if your heavy and painful periods are going to damage your career!.

I had very heavy, painful periods myself until I started on the contraceptive pill - now they are much lighter, I only get (barely noticeable) cramping on the first day and I have no more PMS!. It probably works differently from person to person but I'd say its definitely worth a try!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had the same problem when I first got my period!.My doctor back then put me on a contraceptive I was on them for about a year and haven't been back on them since!.But they worked for me!.Just a regular birth control pill!. And since I went off them my periods have always been better!. good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Going on the pill usually helps because it restricts the time span of your period, but there is a new pill out that would totally stop the bleeding!. Go see a GP for more infoWww@Answer-Health@Com

you should really ask your docter but you should try birth control!. yaz works well!. ask your docter about which would work for you!. 9 months is plenty of time for the bc pill to work!.

Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I would talk to a doctor about this or even try to ask other women who are in the army!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

go on the pill that will make them lighter and should help with the stomach cramps, it worked for me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
