Eh...personal female problem? Girls only please, TMI alert?!

Question: Eh!.!.!.personal female problem!? Girls only please, TMI alert!?
Okay, this is kind of embarrassing to talk about!. I'm 21/f and married and I think I keep getting yeast infections!. I take showers every single day and keep clean "down there"!. I use protection when I am intimate with my husband!. Recently I switched from thongs back to plain cotton panties because I heard it helps!. But I keep getting an itchy *you know* with white clumpy discharge!.

I don't understand why because I always keep clean and I've been tested for std's and whatnot and everything came back negative!.

What is this and what else can I do in the meantime to treat it!? I plan on going to the doctor sometime next week, but anything to alleviate the problem now!?

Please only answer if you're going to be mature about it and not going to make fun of me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
try wearing loose pants and wear loose underwear, eat lots of yogurt, dont overclean down there because that can cause yeast infection as well!. use a different soap to see if the soap is the problem!. ivory is a good brand for those type of things!. also, it would be smart to keep track of the days from when it happens to when it calms down or stops because if it's near your period then its pretty normal!. still go see your doctor like youre planning to do!.

good luck =]Www@Answer-Health@Com

eat yogurt: gives your system good bacteria to fight off the symptoms!. :) You can also get cranberry juice as well!.

A yeast infection is an abundance of bad bacteria, which doesn't come from not being clean!. Yeast infections are extremely common!. I would stop washing your vagina with soap (can kill off the good bacteria) use plain water or a soap formulated for the genitals, and make sure undies are the right size!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not just yeast infections can cause the symptoms you mention!. Some bacterial infections can also, and unless treated with antibiotics will seem to "come and go!." Do see the doctor as some infections can affect your fertility!. Tell him/her what you said here--there may be some underlying cause!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It could also be a bacterial infection!.

But if it is itchy and not burning, then I would suspect a yeast infection!. You can buy over the counter yeast infection at the grocery store or pharmacy!. Many women I know like Monistat 3 day pre-filled applicators with the itch cream included!.

Wow, I feel i just gave TMI! hahaWww@Answer-Health@Com

I think you should change the brand of condoms, stop having sex for a bit so it can clear up and use one of the over the counter yeast infection treatments to see if it helps!. Don't douche until you go to the dr and be sure to take warm baths without any soap or bubbles!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like your alergic to the soap you are using to wash your who who!. Try using sorbolene instead!. They say that if you over clean down there it will actually have a very negative effect, so take it easy on the soap!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It could be a yeast infection, you get those from things like being on antibiotics!. Try eating yogurt with a live culture and see if it goes away!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well i talked to my doctor because i keep really clean and everything and have been tested for std's and am in the clear, but i get almost the same thing!. I took some time and wrote on a calendar when it appeared and how long it lasted, i noticed that it was right before and after my period for a few days!. I don't know if she is right but she said its normal!. but then my gyno noticed that i have a scrape on my cervix(i forget the medical term for it) and i'm thinking this might have something to do with it!. Maybe you have something like that!?!? Vagisil wipes are good!. i like em!. and they make every thing feel better for a temp fixWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hey there!.!.!. switching to full bottom cotton panties was a wise move!.!.!. thongs and g-strings are just a source of irritation and facilitate the spread of bacteria from your rectum to your vagina!.

When you wash down there, use water only!. No soaps or anything with perfume!. Also, try changing your laundry detergent, fabric softener, etc to unscented, sensitive skin formula!. It sounds like it could be a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, caused by irritation!.!.!. so eliminating irritants such as perfumes is your best bet!. Also it could be a latex allergy!. Contact dermatitis can cause itching, which can lead to increased vaginal discharge, which can lead to a yeast infection!. Be sure to rinse well after intercourse and to urinate within 15 minutes of intercourse to help prevent urinary tract infection, which given the current irritated state, would only cause more discomfort!.

Hope this helps!.!.!. good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cleaning too much can actually CAUSE yeast infections!. The body produces discharge that helps to neutralize the amount of bacteria, but cleaning down there constantly you could be hindering the vaginas natural cleansing!.

Switching from thongs could help since tight underwear is another cause of yeast infections!. Have you tried using the over the counter Monastat7 suppositories!? They have a 3 day pack that should rid you of the infection! Your doctor can test for yeast infections (or diagnose, not test) and can probably give you a prescription grade treatment!. But to alleviate it now, go pick up Monastat7!

Also, it's good you use protection, because yeast infections can actually spread to guys too!Www@Answer-Health@Com

What is a vaginal yeast infection!?
A vaginal yeast infection is irritation of the vagina and the area around the vagina, called the vulva!. It is caused by an overgrowth of the fungus or yeast Candida!. Yeast normally live in the vagina in small numbers, but when the bacteria in the vagina become out of balance, too many yeast grow and cause an infection!.

Vaginal yeast infections are very common!. About 75 percent of women have a yeast infection during their lives!. And almost half of women have two or more yeast infections!.

What are the signs of a vaginal yeast infection!?
The most common symptom of a yeast infection is extreme itchiness in and around the vagina!. Other symptoms include:

Burning, redness, and swelling of the vagina and the area around it
Pain when urinating
Pain or discomfort during sex
A thick, white vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese and does not have a bad smell
You may only have a few of these symptoms and they may be mild or severe!.

Should I call my doctor if I think I have a yeast infection!?
Yes, you need to see your doctor to know for sure if you have a yeast infection, especially if you've never had one before!. The signs of a yeast infection are similar to those of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) like chlamydia and gonorrhea!. So, it's hard to be sure you have a yeast infection and not something more serious!.

If you've had vaginal yeast infections in the past, talk to your doctor about using over-the-counter medicines!.

How is a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed!?
Your doctor will do a pelvic exam to look for swelling and discharge!. She may also use a swab to take a sample from the vagina!. A quick look under the microscope or a lab test will show if yeast is causing the problem!.

Why did I get a yeast infection!?
Many things can change the acidity of the vagina and boost your chances of a vaginal yeast infection!. These include:

stress
lack of sleep
sickness
poor diet, or extreme intake of sugary foods
pregnancy
having your period
taking birth control pills
taking antibiotics
taking steroid medicines
diseases such as poorly-controlled diabetes and HIV infection
Can I get a yeast infection from having sex!?
Yes, but it is rare!. Women usually do not get yeast infections from sex!. Instead, a weakened immune system is the most common cause of yeast infections!.

How are yeast infections treated!?
Yeast infections can be cured with antifungal medicines in the form of creams, tablets, ointments or suppositories that are inserted into the vagina!. These medicines include butoconazole, clotrimazole, miconazole, nystatin, tioconazole and terconazole!. These products can be bought over-the-counter at the drug store or grocery store!. Your doctor can also prescribe you a single dose of oral fluconazole!.

Infections that do not respond to these medicines are becoming more common!. Using antifungal medicines when you don't really have a yeast infection can boost your risk of getting a hard-to-treat infection in the future!.

Is it safe to use over-the-counter medicines for yeast infections!?
Yes, but it is important to talk to your doctor first!. Always call your doctor before treating yourself for a vaginal yeast infection if:

you are pregnant
you have never been diagnosed with a yeast infection
you are having repeat yeast infections
Studies show that two thirds of women who buy these products do not really have a yeast infection!. Using these medicines incorrectly may lead to a hard-to-treat infection!. Plus, treating yourself for a yeast infection when you really have another kind of infection may worsen the problem!.

If you decide to use these over-the-counter medicines, be sure to read and follow the directions carefully!. Some creams and inserts may weaken condoms and diaphragms!.

If I have a yeast infection, does my sexual partner need to be treated!?
Not unless he shows signs of a yeast infection!. Rarely, men who have sex with women with yeast infections will get an itchy rash on their penis!. If this happens, he should see his doctor!.

What should I do if I get repeat yeast infections!?
Call your doctor!. About five percent of women develop four or more vaginal yeast infections in one year!. This is called recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC)!. RVVC is more common in women with diabetes or weakened immune systems!. Doctors normally treat this problem with antifungal medicine for up to six months!.

How can I avoid getting another yeast infection!?
To help prevent vaginal yeast infections, try the following:

Don't use douches!.
Avoid scented hygiene products like bubble bath, sprays, pads and tampons!.
Change tampons and pads often during your period!.
Don't wear tight underwear or clothes made of synthetic fibers!.
Wear cotton underwear and pantyhose with a cotton crotch!.
Change out of wet swimsuits and exercise clothes as soon as possible!.
If you have repeat yeast infections, talk to your doctor!.
