There are several things that you can do!. The symptoms are possibly caused by an increase in oestrogen levels and can happen up to two weeks before menstruation!. Normally oestrogen is broken down in the liver but it needs sufficient quantities of B complex vitamins and fibre for this to happen!. So plenty of greens and porridge (not necessarily together!) should be in the diet!. You should avoid all stimulants such as tea, coffee, alcohol, cola, chocolate and some pain killers as they raise oestrogen levels!.

In some women PMS is more severe than 'normal' and can be prolonged!. It is usually linked to your hormone levels and, as you have seen, can cause mood swings, sore breasts and bloating among other symptoms!. There are treatments that can help so it is worth seeing your GP!. The commonest treatment is to go on the pill but there are others!. Your GP can also prescribe suitable painkillers for you as often simple paracetamol or ibuprofen don't help with severe period pain!.
