The body weight is usually a bit closer to 100 pounds, which I believe translates to closer to 8 stone!. The usual age now days is also around 12, so you probably have a few years yet before her first period arrives!. Still, it's never too early to start the discussions!. You don't have to go into all the details, certainly not the whole "how babies are made" bit, but she should be aware of the changes that will happen to her as time goes on!. She should begin to have hair grow in the underarms and crotch, and there is usually a little breast development that will happen before the first period does!. You might start a conversation first by asking her exactly what she already knows, or at least thinks she knows!. Kids now days tend to be a little wiser than we think, but unfortunately a good bit of the information is distorted or incorrect!. If you discover she knows a little, you can start at that point and go on!. One word of advise though- please don't use any of the typical terms like "woman's curse", and don't lead her to expect the cycle to be painful or miserable!. A good bit of her attitude towards it will come from how she thinks you see it!. If you seem to think it's a major imposition, or will be a great deal of cramping or pain, chances are good she'll have troubles!. By all means, tell her about cramps- in due time - but also tell her she doesn't have to suffer from them, as there are things to help!. As it gets closer to the time when that first period is likely, help her pack a "ready kit" to throw in her book bag, in case she's caught at school!. I packed them for my girls in a zippered makeup bag!. It contained a change of undies, a couple thin pads, and a plastic ziplock type bag for the soiled undies!. Being in the makeup bag, if it falls out- it's no embarassement!. And they can carry it to the bathroom the same way- camoflauged!. At home, show her where the supplies are kept, and teach her proper disposal!. And finally, make plans for a special girls night out for dinner to celebrate the day it actually arrives!. I did that with each of my girls, and we had a nice dinner with just us two!. That also gave me an opportunity to discuss things with her, just us two- to make sure we were both on the same page with things!. That was also when I would start the discussions about the "boy" side of things!. My advice is start with discussions now, and keep them up as the opportunity arises!. Open talks now make it a lot easier later, and make it that much easier for her to talk to you when she will really need to later as well!. Mine would always get a bit embarassed, but I reminded them I was the one who potty trained them, and it was my responsibility to teach them everything they needed to know about caring for themselves, and it included this bit of info!. I stayed matter of fact about it- even when my stomach squirmed!. Told them I had as hard a time thinking about my baby being a young lady as they did, but together we'd get through it just fine!. And we did, three daughters, three times!. Good luck to you!. Oh- if you need help with the explanations, the libraries generally have some books in the parenting and child sections on the topic that can be a great help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, we have to be of a certain body weight for the period to start but as far as the exact amount of weight that can be different for each girl!.

I was 13 when I started my period but I am not sure how much I weighed!.

As for girls starting earlier than when I did yes it is true and part of that may have something to do with the hormones they put in foods as is the case in some parts of the world!.

well, i know you have to have 17% body fat to get ur period regularly!. Being a daughter myself, i think its great that u wanna prepare ur daughter 4 hers, coz my mother probably wouldn't even remember about things like that especially coz she had a thyroid problem=delayed puberty, so every time i tell my mum about sosmething new e!.g deoderant, shaving, period, she gets surprised!.
i got my period 3 weeks ago and yeh, if i had never had told her, she would've never had known!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi i would definitely prepare her!.!.!.i just got mine 13 and 87 pounds!. give her some pads for her bag just in case she is caught at school!. and make her feel comfortable talking to you abt it so when she gets it, it will not be hard for her to tell you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
