Possibly period related?!

I'm 21 and currently on the pill!. I was about a week away from my green non-hormone pills when this occurred!. I noticed some spotting, but it was more of a very very dark red, almost a brownish red!. It's lasted a few days now, maybe 2-3, and it's not as much spotting anymore as if I have a very light period but not at all normal!. I also missed a pill about a week prior to this all happening, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but I was just curious if anyone knew what this was or why it's happening!.
