Answers:
You don't 'have' to do anything!. Generally to getbirth control there arent any specific requirements and I've never been asked to do a pap smear to be able to get the pill!.

However, that doesn't mean that it wouldnt be good or a benefit if you did get a pap smear!. The general rule with pap smears is to get one when you start having sex OR when you are around the age of 18, and then every 1-2 years from then on!. It's not a matter of it it being something you are forced to do, it is more to do with taking control of your own health and beginning to check for the early warning signs such as changes to the cervical cells which may lead to cervical cancer!. It also means that you will be getting a checkup, which many women wouldnt get if they werent going to get a pap smear in the first place!.

To get ready for one, basically just think of it has something that is worth doing, and remind yourself that doctors are used to doing it, they do it every day and they arent having a look just for the sake of it!. Generally to prepare I just make sure that I shower before I go so that I feel fresh and just prepare yourself mentally and try to stay calm!. The actual Pap smear takes only a few minutes and it will be over before you know it!. Pretty much they get you to take your bottom halfs off, including clothes or underwear and you hop up on a table and lay back, they get you to pull your knees up and sometimes they get you to put your hands into fists and put them under your butt to rise the position of the cervix and the body a little bit!. Then they use a speculum which they will usually warm up and lubricate and insert it into the vagina!. This is used to widen the vagina so that they can then have access and have a look inside!. Then the scrape a few cells from around the eges of the cervix, pop them on a slide and then they get sent off to pathology!. If you ask for any std tests then they will do this at the same time and just get a few extra swabs of cells and mucous to be sent away for testing!. Then it's pretty much over, you get up, put your clothes back on and try to get on with things! It's not painful, just a little bit uncomfortable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, it's a good idea to get all checked out before you start having sex, and then yearly after that!. They don't just check for STDs, they check for certain cancers and overall health!. It's not all that bad, and it's benefits your health!.

I haven't heard about the not douching thing, but you can ask the person when you make the appointment and they'll let you know!. You CAN go if your period happens, no need to reschedule!.

Good for you for getting a b/c, that shows a lot of maturityWww@Answer-Health@Com

All women, virgin or not, have to get a yearly pap smear as part of their exam!.

To get ready: Don't douche (you shouldn't anyway) and wash there with soap and water!. You don't have to shave it or anything!. I never have!. Schedule your exam when you're not having your period!. They will reschedule you if you're having your period because they cannot do your pap test when you're bleeding!.

Yes, you have to get a pap smear from a Gyn to get birth control!. They need to check you for cancer, sexually active or not!. And, you have to go every six months after you have been placed on the pill!. After a year, you only go annually!.
You have to get paps with the pill!. Anyone who doesn't don't care enough about their health!.

Getting a pap is no big deal: it's quick and painless!. Wouldn't you rather be sure you're cancer free instead of being squeamish and finding out you have cancer too late to treat it!? Grow up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Every sexually active female needs to have an annual Pap smear to check for pre-cancerous or cancerous changes in the cervix!. And you shouldn't douche at all!. Douching throws off the pH balance in your vagina among other things!.!.!.it's not a healthy practice!. Your vagina is self-cleaning anyway!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

only once you've had sex do you need a pap smear!. i was 21 and telling my doctor i was a virgin, she said "only when you are sexually active do you need a pap smear" !.!. so i finally got one,2 years after i lost my virginty!.!. but some people say doctors like to do them once you turn 18!.

they wont give you a pap to go on the pill though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's recommended that you get seen by a gyno when you become sexually active or when you're 18, which ever one comes first!. It included a vaginal exam; that will include a pap smear!. Your gyno will want to check you out before they prescribe meds to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they say even if your a virgin once your 18 you should go!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes you will need too nothing much u can do to prepare just be clean and freshWww@Answer-Health@Com

You shouldn't douche anyway, regardless of having a pap smear or not!. The vagina is a self-cleaning set up!. As far as an exam before you get birth control, the answer is yes!. You will need to have a full gyn exam first, complete with the smear and cultures!. If you are big enough to consider swapping bodily fluids with a bf, then you are big enough to face the gynecological exam as well!. At any rate, in addition to the birth control pills, I sincerely hope you and bf plan to use condoms!. Although he may be your first love, it's safe to bet you are not his first love!. And pregnant is not the worst thing you can get!. I don't care how clean he looks, how sweet he talks!. He can carry lots of things you don't want, and he may not have a clue he carrys them, because it won't cause a problem for him!. As far as the appointment, you chose a doctor or clinic, call and make the appointment!. Chose a date that is about a week after your period- so you are not bloated in waiting, nor tender from afterwards!. I suggest taking a trusted friend with you for the waiting in the office!. Wear comfy clothing that comes off and goes on easy- sweat suits are great!. You aren't going to a fashion show, so the bra can be optional if you like!. Wear socks, as you can keep those on for the exam, and at least your feet will be warm!. Know the date your last period started, and roughly how long your cycle usually runs!. Know a bit of family history, as far as cancer and high blood pressure!. And when you arrive for the exam, tell the nurse it's your very first exam!. Nurses coax ladies through the first exam all the time- not a problem!. The doctor will also try to go easier on you and explain as he/she goes along!. While there, get instruction on doing the self breast exam!. Ask any questions you need to while you are there!. And while you are getting the prescription filled, get a box of condoms!. Remember, bcp only protects you against pregnancy!. It is NOT the worst thing you can get!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
