Question: Period Odor from my friend! Why did she get this!?
Well, Me and my friends are all 13, and only a few have their periods [I don't]!. My friend Apryl has had hers since she was about 9 or 10, and she gets it quite often and misses out on swimming!. Today, when she came near or we walked past, there was a huge odor!. It smelt fishy, and really bad!. and in assembly, my friend started going "Yuck, it smells like fish!" and Apryl looked really embarrassed and just looked down, crossing her legs!. My friend who has it, told me that she smells really bad today and that she obviously has her period, but why all of a sudden did it smell THIS bad!? She did have her period that day, as she told my friend, but it smelt really bad when I walked past her! It kind of smelt like fish, or discharge!. Will this happen tomorrow!?!? Why did it happen today!? My friend says her period was obviously heavy, or playing up or maybe she had an infection!. PLEASE ANSWER QUICK!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all do not use deodorant pads or tampons, it will actually smell worse like that bad smell mixed with deodorant and it seems like she has something to hide!. Deodorant tampons can lead to toxic shock syndrome!.
I think she may not be changing her pads/tampons enough!. especially if her flow is heavy it needs to be done alot and often!. Also hygiene is very important, she needs to take extra care to wash down there and even dry before she replaces her pad/tampon and gets dressed!. She shouldn't shower with the tampon in either!.
Also if she has alot of pubic hair it will hold the odor so she may want to trim it very short or remove it all, when wearing a pad the menstral blood will come in contact with the hair!.
She needs to becarefl using those washes they can cause infections!. If she uses a douche after her period it should only be a vinegar/water type!.

hum sometimes it does smell like that but it shouldnt be that strong, does she shower every day!? Maybe you should have a quiet word with her, because she will be feeling abit embarrased if she knows its her that smells!. But it shouldn't smell that bad so others can smell it!. She should just shower everymorning and take some sort of wet wipes around with her to use when she goes to the toilet!. i think you should have a quiet word with her there alot of nasty people at school and if they all start to notice the odour is her she will get picked on which is not a nice thing she should be changin her pad more often in this case and using baby wipes when she uses the toilet at the chemist or supermarket they sell fanny wash it works really well dont be embaressed to buy it as it is very popularWww@Answer-Health@Com

many women get feminine odor around their period, luckily a lot of times it gets better with age!. For her, I would reccommend trying deodorant tampons or pads!. Also, they offer over the counter medications for feminine odor!. she can just type feminine odor relief in google and a lot of options will come up!. If this doesn't solve the problem, however, she could have an infection and should see her doctor!. If her odor is upsetting her, she could also talk to her doctor about that!. it's nothing for her to be embarassed about because it happens to some women, however it is controllable and she can find some comfort in that!.
