Coil/IUD, is it any good, pro's and cons?!

Question: Coil/IUD, is it any good, pro's and cons!?
Hi
I'm a Nurse so i'm pretty clued up regarding contraception; just wanted to know if any of you have used the coil/IUD and what your personal views or experiences are regarding this method of birth control!. I can't use any hormone birth control!. So the pill, patch and the injection is out of the question!. I'm kinda worried (despite what I have read about it) that I will be able to feel it and it will hurt!!? Any comments would be appreciated!.

Thanks in advance!. Rhianna xWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yep!. I am in the same boat as you!. I go nuts on all the hormonal methods AND am allergic to latex!.!.!. and non-latex!. I'm married, so STD's aren't an issue!. I've also never given birth, so I had some concerns about my uterus not being stretchy enough!. I got the ParaGuard!.

Well, I'll tell you!. YES, it hurt like hell!. I went in and they weren't able to get it in!. They tried until I almost threw up from the pain!. Maybe I had freaked myself out too much with all the research I did before deciding to get it!. I mean, I was laying on the table with thoughts of a perforated uterus running through my mind!.!.!. not good for relaxation, really!. Not discouraged, I went in two weeks later to see an different doctor!.!.!.!. one who used drugs!. So, they shot me up with numbness and I was tense and scared from my last experience!.!.!.!. next thing I knew, she was done! So, inserting it the second time was no big deal!.!.!.!. ASK FOR DRUGS!. Seriously!. Especially if you've never had a baby!.

Now, that very same night, I was in such severe pain that I called my friend and asked for a vicodin!. I felt like a jerk because not only am I not the kind of person who takes drugs that are not prescribed to her, but my friend had a mastectomy and she needs her vicodin!. I was in so much pain I didn't care!. One vicodin was enough!. It got me through the night!. When I woke up, I was cramping, but it was manageable!. They told me that I would be crampy for two weeks, but it was more like 10 days!. Probably because I used a heating pad on my abdomen to relax my muscles and stop them from trying so hard to expel the IUD!. I was fine after that other than the occasional twinge or two!. Much like period cramps, it was manageable with the use of ibuprofin!. Not too bad!. Now, I'm totally fine!. No twinges, no pain during sex!. My periods ARE slightly worse than usual, but that's manageable, too!. Periods are a pain in the butt either way!.

So, if I could do it all over again, I would do the following!.

-Go to a doctor who will shoot drugs into your cervix!.
-Insist on a prescription of vicodin (5 pills outta do it)
-buy a heating pad BEFORE you have it done, lol!.
-Don't try to drive yourself if your doctor is more than 20 miles from your home!. I was totally fine for about a half hour, then driving SUCKED after that!. I had to drive 40 miles!.!.!.!. so you can imagine!. It was horrid!.
-Make sure you have plenty of liquid gel cap advil!. That stuff rules!

Well, I hope I helped you out!. I wish somebody had told me this stuff!. :-) It really is great!. I don't have to worry about hormones, I don't worry about getting pregnant! It doesn't hurt!. I'm so glad I did it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry but I would have thought that as a nurse you would know that the main safe contraceptive available today is the good old fashioned sheaf!.

Protects you form pregnancy - decease - and no side effects!.

-Its not just to protect you and your partner @ the moment - its also to protect you from your sexual history, unless your saying that you have both never slept with anyone - in which case the coil is supposed to be fab-Www@Answer-Health@Com

The most common complication of Coil/IUD is frequent infections as the Coil/IUD irritates the endometrium constantly and in response to that irritation, the endometrial glands secrete more secretions, a medium for bacterial growth!. Furthermore, it is not completely safe as a pregnancy preventive measure; effective only about 80-85%!.
The only pro is that your body is not exposed to excess estrogen/progesterone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i used to get slightly heavier periods and cramps but otherwise i found it absolutely great!.had mine in ten years and,no, you can't feel it!.xxWww@Answer-Health@Com
