Most Pap smears are normal!. This means that all the cells appear healthy!.

An abnormal Pap smear means that the cells appear different, but are not necessarily harmful!. An abnormal Pap may result from infection by bacteria, viruses, or from unknown causes!. Sometimes abnormal Pap smears are associated with STDs (sexually transmitted diseases)!.

If your Pap smear was not normal, it could indicate a premalignant condition!. Further investigation would be needed to determine the appropriate course of action!. This could require a repeat pap smear or the use of a colposcope!.

A colposcope is merely a binocular microscope designed to assist in locating abnormal cells on the cervix!.

If an abnormal area is discovered, a pinch of tissue must be taken and examined!. This is called a "pinch biopsy!." The result of the pinch biopsy will help your doctor determine whether treatment is necessary!.

Treating Abnormal Pap Smears

The usual treatment for an abnormal Pap smear is called "cryotherapy," which simply means to freeze!.

The area from which the unhealthy cells were found is frozen!. The frozen tissue is sloughed off by the body and new, healthy tissue will then grow in its place!. During this process, a heavy, watery discharge may occur for approximately two weeks!.

Your clinician will probably recommend increasing your intake of water and potassium rich foods during this time!. Have a follow-up pap smear 4-6 months after cryotherapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They are saying you could have hpv which COULD turn into cancer!. ask your doc to explain in real people terms what is going on because he's the only one down there!. Has he ordered a biopsy yet!? If not that needs to be done ASAP!. I've heard though that gardisile is not effective if you are hpv positive (it is not a cure, there is no cure yet)!. If you are found to be positive just know it's very very common!. I have read reports saying it will run its course and then naturally cure/ remove itself if your immune system is healthy!. Others say it will stay indefinatly but it's really not a huge deal(unless you have a strain that causes cancer) you'll have like one or two outbreaks threw your whole life (unless your immune system isn't healthy!. Hope I helped (Don't stress)Www@Answer-Health@Com

You probably just had a mildly abnormal pap!. Didn't they want you to come back and repeat the pap smear in 6 months!?

The abnormal cells could revert to normal or get worse!.

Cervical cancer usually takes many years to develop!.

Most cervical cancer is caused by a sexually-transmitted virus!. Gardasil will prevent most of those but not all, and of course, it won't prevent the transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS or hepatitis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They told my sister two times they found abnormal cells in her pap smear!. They did a coloscopy to take a closer look and she was fine!. It happens all the time to women so please don't jump to scary conclusions-i'm sure you'll be fine!. A coloscopy is when they go inside and scrape more of your cells to further examine them!. My sister was awake and she had to keep very still even though it was kinda painful, but not unbearable!. Good luck and don't worry so much-stress is really bad for you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi first of all stop worring
its happened to me 4 times and im 100% clear now
cancer is a scarey word i remember i was terrified at first
the abnormal cells that u have could turn cancerous COULD not WILL COULD if left untreated!. the smear is finding cells which are abnormal but the clever part is the smear picks it up before it gets to be anything else but just abnormal!.
i had to have a loop cone biopsey which takes away the affected area its a small operation but they didnt offer the garisile vaccine then but either way its wrth havin it !. u will need to go more often for smears afterward evey 6mths i think so they can keep an eye on u which doesnt mean it will come back its just how they wrk things and if u shud have them again then u know what to expect but as long as u keep to check up appointments theres a very low chance of it comeing back!. its not something u expect to find out and it is frightening but i hope my advice helps u understand it all a lil more ur gonna be fine xxxxWww@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like HPV, you can go to the Dr!. and they can freeze them off!. But you really have to keep a close watch on it !. Keep up with regular Dr appointments so it doesn't turn to a cancer cell!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
