My daughter is 18, and just had her first gynecologist visit because she was not getting her periods at all!. The doctor did not do a pelvic exam!. They took some blood and the test results showed she had Pelvic Ovarian Syndrome!. A hormone disorder!. They put her on a birth control pill (which are essentially hormones) and she has been regular ever since!. Still no pelvic exam!.

Your case may be different!. If you want your mom or older sister or anyone in there, you have a right to have that person in the room with you during any exam!. If they do a pelvic exam, if the doctor is male, he will always ask a nurse to be in there, too!. You will have to take off absolutely everything from the waist down!. Then, you will lay on a table with a half sheet which covers from your waist to your feet!. When the doctor examines you, first he may poke and prod you from the outside to see if he feels any lumps or anything!. Then, he will stick a rubber gloved finger up where the sun don't shine and press from the inside and outside at the same time!. Then, he may stick another finger in the south end of the farm to see if there's anything going on down there, too!. (Yeah, gross!.) If you need a pap smear, you will need to RELAX your muscles so he can poke a huge metal torture machine up your vagina!. (Think of a smooth round gadget about 8" long) This will open you up so he can reach the swab in far enough to get a sample of what's inside your uterus!.

I'm not kidding about the relax your muscles, no matter how nervous or tense you are!. Just think of your favorite song or something else!. Because if your muscles are tense, he can't do his job, and we don't want him to have to force that thing in, do we!? Now that you're all calm and everything - don't worry - you'll be fine!. The rest of us survived somehow, too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are the age of 18, expect a pap smear!. This is where the gyno checks for unhealthy cervical cells, cervical cancer, etc!. The pap smear can be painful if you are not sexually active!. It involves a lot of shoving, poking and proding 'down there'!. Results follow a few days after!.

Also, a regular check up on your uterus is in store!. The gyno will shove his fingers up from the vaginal opening (Some doctors also use your rectum) to check up on your uterus!.

If you doctor does use the rectal way, it's NOT harmful or considered unprofessional!. It is a more simplier way and a more helpful way for them to feel your uterus!. My gyno did this to me on my first visit and was shocked, but i've done my research on it!. You can ask them not to do this, but it's more effective and they might insist!.

A descusion on your period and yourself will be in store!. This gives the doctors and easier understanding about you and your period!.

I hope this helps! Goodluck with your first checkup!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It doesnt hurt!
Its just a little uncomfortable!.
You will be weighed!. Then you will lay down and the doctor will give you a breast exam, and she will tap your tummy!. Then they lube up the duck bill clamp, this goes inside you and goes over your cervix, this is a little uncomfortable but no real pain, then the doctor will take a long looking q-tip this slips into your cervix, they take a sample of your cells to test to see if you have cancer or any other thing, then she will put her fingers in your and feel your overies!.
Visits to the Gyno arnt fun, but they are important and dont worry we all go!!!!
Its the great equalizer in life, rich or poor, were all there with our heels in stirups!. !Www@Answer-Health@Com

He/she will feel your breasts (under the gown) for lumps!.

They'll place a metal contraption in you that will open you up!. It shouldn't hurt but sort of tingles!. Then they'll take a swab with a q-tip like thing!. That doesn't hurt!. Just relax as much as you can!. They'll also shine a light in that area & look around!. The warmth of the light will feel weird!.

They'll press on your belly!.

The rest is pretty routine!. They'll probably be talking to you during the whole thing to put you at ease!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,Not much will happen if you are still a virgin,as they usually put a speculum inside your vag and look around,they will have a feel of your belly and get a general history on your health and periods and that might be it, and make an appointment for another check-up in a few months!.Goodluck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Honestly my first one did hurt, hell they still hurt me, maybe im just a crybaby though lol but yeah the doctor will open you up down there with a speculum( thats the part that hurts me) and just make sure everything alright!. it doesnt take to long, and the more relaxed u are the better, good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

ok dont be scared, its something that all us chickies have to do - he will check the ins and outs of you!.!.!.kinda literally!. he will check down there, taking swabs n so on, nothing should hurt, it will feel uncompfortable though, he will check your blood preassure and things lke that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They will ask questions about your periods, they may or may not take blood!.!.!.!.if you are under 21 and not sexually active, chances are you will not have a pap smear!. Really, its not that bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you'll get a pap smearWww@Answer-Health@Com

Well your appt!. will probably be a little more extensive due to the fact your not going just for a simple exam but also to find out the cause of you not having your period!. But generally, during the first exam you will fill out a health questionnaire in the lobby along with your insurance paperwork!. The nurse will take you back and ask you what your there for!. She will get your weight, blood pressure, and probably do a urine sample!. She will go over your sexual history with you, medications you take, etc!. Then since it is the first exam the doctor will probably come in and talk to you first and just go over why you are there and again go over things the nurse asked you such as your reproductive history, period history, etc!. Then he will probably tell you to undress and will step out while you undress and put on a paper gown!. The doctor will come back in with the nurse and then have you lay back on the table and put your legs in the stirrup!. Try to relax (easier said then done I know) because this helps the exam go quicker and less uncomforatable!. The doctor will then insert a speculum in your vagina!.!.!.!.this is to open it up so he can see inside better!. Then he will get a thin probe and insert it and scrape to get cell samples to send to the lab (this is the pap smear)!. This checks for pre-cancerous cells and abnormalities in the cells!. This can be a tad uncomfortable but it last just a few seconds!. Then the doctor will insert his fingers in you and palpatate on your stomach to feel for abnormalities!. This just feels like a lot of pressure!. After that, he may or may not do a breast exam to check for lumps!. A lot of doctors don't do this if your super young and have no history of breast cancer they will wait until your older to start doing this!. After that, the doctor will then leave while you dress and will come back in and discuss birth control options if you need some and refer you for further tests if he deems necessary (such as lab test to check hormones, ultrasounds if he thinks you have a cyst or something, etc)!. The worst part about the whole thing is anticipating it but it really is not that bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When you go for your first gynaecological examination/visit, you may have a few examinations done, which may include the following: A pelvic exam is a way for your gynaecologist to examine your female organs and check for any gynaecological problems!.

You may be worried about your first pelvic exam!. It's very normal to be anxious about something when you don't know what to expect!. Hopefully after reading this, you will be reassured that it is simple, isn't painful and the actual pelvic exam takes only about 5 minutes!. It is also normal to feel embarrassed or uneasy about your first exam, I still feel embarrassed with mine and I've had may many pelvic examinations over the past 10 years due to female related problems I'm experiencing!.

However, if you know what to expect, it may help you relax!. I'm sure your gyno understands how you feel and will be sensitive and gentle, and answer any questions you may have!.

There are other important reasons to have a pelvic exam!. These may include:

- Unexplained pain in your lower belly or around the pelvic area, where your vagina is;
- Vaginal discharge or wetness on your underwear that causes itching, burning or smells bad;
- No menstrual periods by age 15 or 16;
- Vaginal bleeding that lasts more than 10 days;
- Missed periods; especially if you are having sex;
- Menstrual cramps so bad that you miss school or work!.

During your first check up your gyno will ask you questions about:

- Your general health, allergies and medications you are taking;
- Your menstrual period, such as how old you were when you first got it, how long it lasts, how often it comes, how much you bleed , the first day that your last period started, if you have cramps; and at what age your breasts started to develop!.
- Whether you have ever had sex or have been sexually abused!.
- If you have vaginal itchiness or an unusual discharge or odor from your vagina!.

If you find it comforting your partner, a friend or if you are still young, your Mum can go with you for support, bear in mind that they don't have to be present in the room when you are having the pelvic examination done!. After you have given your medical history, been weighed and had your blood pressure checked, you will be asked to put on a gown!. You will need to remove your clothes including your underwear and bra!. A breast exam is often done as a routine part of this check-up!.

Your gyno will explain the steps to the exam and ask you to lie down on the exam table!. You will be given a sheet to put over your stomach and legs!. You will then be asked to move down to the end of the table and place your feet in stirrups (these are holders for your feet)!. With your knees bent, you will be asked to let your knees fall to each side allowing your legs to spread apart!. This is usually the part when most women feel embarrassed!. This feeling is normal too!. Just remember that although this is your first exam, this is routine for your gyno and their only concern is for your health!.

There are 3 parts to this exam!. Sometimes not all parts of the pelvic exam are necessary!. Ask your gyno which part or parts will be done for your examination!.

Your gyno will first look at the area outside of your vagina, (clitoris, labia, vaginal opening, and rectum)!.

Now some information about the papsmear!. The speculum is an instrument made of metal or plastic!. Your gyno will place the speculum into your vagina!. After it is inserted, it will be gently opened so that your gyno can see your vagina and your cervix (the opening to your uterus)!.

After checking your vagina and cervix, your gyno may take a thin plastic stick and a special tiny brush or a small "broom" and gently wipe away some of the cells from your cervix!. This is a pap smear, which detects early changes of the cervix before they become cancer!. Most girls have normal pap smears!.

If you are having vaginal discharge, your gyno will take another sample to check for a possible yeast infection and other causes of discharge!. If you are having sex, your gyno will take another sample from the cervix to check for sexually transmitted diseases!. When all of these samples have been taken, your doctor will close the speculum and gently take it out!.

When the exam is over, your gyno will answer any questions you have and tell you when to make your next appointment!. He/she will also talk to you about any medications you may need and tell you when and how you will get the results of the exam!.

I hope this information helps you out!. Best of luck and remember to try to relax!. If at any time during your examination, you feel uncomfortable or anything causes pain, you have the right to stop your gyno and let him/her know!.

Good luck!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
