The doctor should have given you a pregnancy test before prescribing any birth control!. But the reason (I think) your doctor didnt do this is because you had already been on birth control pills and were just changing the type of birth control!. The doctor probably assumed you were taking the pills properly and therefore were not pregnant!.

My personal experience is that I was given a pregnancy test before I was given birth control for the first time but not each time I switch pills, unless I stopped taking the pills for a period of time, then they retest!.

I believe there was malpractice but it may be hard to prove since you had told the doctor you were already taking pills leading up to the implantation of the IUD!. But if you requested a pregnancy test and the doctor wouldnt allow it before the procedure than yes, i believe that is malpractice!.

I am sorry for what you went through!. Try to talk to a lawyer about this that specializes in malpractice!. I know doctors can be careless when it comes to reproductive health, there is very little certainty and doctors need to be clear about everything they are doing before they do it!.

I have also never heard of an OB inserting an IUD without the woman being on her period!. I dont think your doctor knew what they were doing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry for this whole experience!. But Im sure you couldve kept the baby if it was only 2 weeks!. BUT sounds like you didnt want a baby since you were getting birth control!. Maybe you could call the office and complain maybe they can prevent this from happening to someone else!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This story is very strange!. I've had 4 IUD's over the years and I always had to wait until I had my period to have it inserted and/or removed!. Has this changed!? I've never heard of a Dr inserting an IUD otherwise!.!.!.!.probably because if you have your period!.!.!.!.you're not pregnant!. I'd talk to a lawyer, sounds like you have a lawsuit on your hands!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not only should she have done a pregnancy test, the uterus is swollen when you are pregnant!. She should have known by feeling your uterus!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
