There are two main methods of terminating a pregnancy!. The first is the "abortion pill"!. This can only be used upto about 9 weeks of pregnancy!. You are given a pill to take, and 48 hours later, you go back to the hospital and a pessary is put into your vagina to open the cervix!. The fetus is dislodged from the uterine wall by the pill and once the cervix is open it will be expelled!. It's rather like a super heavy and painful period!.
The second method is known as vacuum aspiration or the suction method!. This can be used upto about 13 weeks of pregnancy!. For this you are put to sleep or sedated!. A tube is passed up the vagina through the cervix into the womb and the contents of the womb are sucked out!.
These 2 methods can also be used in abortions later in pregnancy but because the fetus is bigger, it is more complicated!.
For late abortions (legally upto the 24th week is permitted in the UK) there are again 2 options!. One is an injection of prostaglandin which sends you into premature labour, so you deliver the fetus as you normally would!. The other is the surgical 2 stage abortion, which involves an injection one day to stop the foetal heartbeat so that it dies, then the next day the cervix is dilated under general anaesthetic and the dead foetus is removed!.

They'll send you home, you'll be in pain for about 5 hours!. (Yes YOU will be in pain, not the baby!.!.!.!. do you realize, at this time, your baby looks like a sea horse!? It doesn't have feelings, it cannot feel that it's dying!.)
You'll have HEAVY bleeding, and you'll change your pad (you can't use tampons) for all this time!. You will seriously get CHUNKS of blood that comes out!. It almost looks like jello!.
