Recommendations for over-the-counter prenatal vitamins?!

Question: Recommendations for over-the-counter prenatal vitamins!?
I'm 35 & have no plans of ever having children( hubby-to-be & I are happily child-free by choice) but have heard taking prenatal vitamins are really good for you!. I need the Folic Acid and my hair & nails could use a boost!. Of course I'll stop taking other dietary supplements!. I heard some prenatal vitamins cause you to gain weight!? Is that true!? Those I want to stay away from!. Any recommendations & other insights would be most helpful!. Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is no danger in taking a pretnatal supplement weather or not you are wanting to have children!. You say you need folic acid, why do you say this!? All vitamins will have at least 400mcg of folic acid, the only difference is prenatals will have at least twice that amount, 800mcg!. 400mcg is usually what is recommended!.

You also say that your "hair and nails could use a boost!." It is incorrect that prenatal vitamins will help with your hair, skin or nails!. What gives pregnant women that radiant glow are actually the hormones from the baby itself!. Prenatal supplements in and of themselves cannot do that!. They are specificly designed to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant and/or lactating women and their babies!.

You can however actually by a supplement that is specifically for hair, skin and nails!. These are taylored to those things and have much higher does of things that would never be in a regular prenatal!. For instance, you will never find a prenatal vitamin with doses of vitamin A above 10,000IU (as more can cause harm to the baby,) while H/S/N vitamins will have around 25,000IU!. H/S/N vitamins also have things that can either be harmful or just not necessary for fetal growth and development like Horsetail herb, MSM, large amounts of Biotin, etc!.

Go to your local health food store and see what they have!. I would reccomend any product by these companies: New Chapter, Michaels Naturopathics, or Country Life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
