What should I do about taking metformin and still no period?!

Question: What should I do about taking metformin and still no period!?
I have been taking metformin 500mg once a day for almost a year now and every time my month is up I call my doctor, same answer "keep taking it"!. I have not had a real period that lasts more than 3 days in over 3 months and before for that I'd be lucky if I bled enough to change for a second pad!. Me and my husband are trying to concieve but we're getting no where and wondering what should we esp I do about meds or questions to the doctor!. He has me on metformin untill October then I have my yearly checkup!. I recently moved to a new city, I can still see the doc I have now but I was wondering if I should stick with him or find someone new!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Find a new doctor for sure! Your current doctor doesn't know what he's doing!. I'm assuming you have PCOS since that's what it sounds like and you aren't getting the proper treatment!. Studies done on metformin have shown that metformin as used to treat PCOS is not effective unless given at dosages between 1500-2500mg per day (I'm on 2000mg per day)!. After 3-4 months of being on your highest dosage you can start taking Clomid to make you ovulate!. I've heard of a lot of PCOSers getting pregnant after taking metformin and Clomid in combination!. Anywho, get a new doctor that knows about PCOS!Www@Answer-Health@Com
