Did your IUD cause you to have an abnormal pap?!
Question: Did your IUD cause you to have an abnormal pap!?
My husband and I have only been with eachother sexually, and I've never had an abnormal pap!. I was on hormonal BC for two years, and went off of it about 4 months ago!. I had the Copper IUD (paragard) inserted and about 10 days later I had my yearly pap done!. I got the results back with the lowest level of abnormal cells!. I've requested another pap instead of the colposcopy b/c I'm convinced it's because of the pap!. Have you had this happen!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

An abnormal pap can be caused by any number of things, including the possibility of a low-grade infection due to the IUD insertion!. It could also be that the doctor picked up a bit of blood (if you're spotting), or you had sex too close to your pap!. Do you douche!? That can skew the results as well!.
While 70% of all cervical abnormalities are caused by STD's (most specifically HPV), the other 30% happen "because!."
So good for you for following up!. You should definitely direct your questions toward your doctor, and DO have a colposcopy if the second pap comes back abnormal as well!. They're not THAT bad!.!.!.and might save your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have not had this happen!. I have the copper T UID and have had it for 9 years!. My paps are always normal!. I do however have heavier periods with more cramping and I have cysts that have developed on my ovaries since the insertion!. I hope that this helps!.
I think you did the right thing about having the pap re-done!. People and labs make mistakes too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
