Answers:
Cystitis is an infection of the bladder cause by bacteria that have travelled up the urethra (the internal tube through which urine exits the body)!.

Follow these steps to help with the pain and get rid of the infections asap:
- Drink a glass of water containing no more than half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda every half hour!. This will turn your urine alkaline and ease the pain, the large amount of water will make you go to the toilet more - thus flushing out infected urine faster!.
- Drink a glass of Cranberry juice about every 2 hours, this is a long standing cure for cystitis!.
- Always go to the toilet as soon as you have the urge, DO NOT hold urine in!.
- A hot waterbottle can be applied to the area to ease the pain!.
- Dont take a painkiller as this will make your urine acidic and cause you even more pain!.

If your symptoms last more than 48hours go and see your doctor!. Also if you experiance any abdominal or back pain go to your doctor immediately as this indicates the infection may have spread to your kidneys which is very serious!.

Here are some preventative measure for the future:
- Never hold in urine, go to the toilet as soon as you get the urge!.
- Drink more water during the day and try to avoid alcohol, junk food and spicy food as much as possible
- Eat a live yoghurt regularily to maintain the helpful bacteria in your system!.
- If you have done a poo, make sure you wipe from front to back to avoid and germs getting into the urethral opening and wash the area afterwords if nessaccary!.
- Urinate immediately before and after sexual intercourse or masturbation using a dildo!. (This clears bacteria from the urethral opening)
- Wear cotton not nylon underwear
- Wash underwear using pure soap, not biological washing powders or bleach!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

As the other posters said, making cranberry juice, or concentrated cranberry capsules part of your daily routine will help stave off an infection!.

If you can recognize the signs when it first begins, you can try a home remedy that worked well for me, but you have to catch it as early as possible!.

Mix 6oz of water with 1/2 tspn of baking soda!. Drink 3 or 4 glasses of this throughout the day!.

The baking soda changes the PH of your urine making it a bad environment for bacteria to survive!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's probably likely to occur!. Most people that get it have recurring episodes!. Drink REAL cranberry juice (or take caplets), always void (pee) before and after sex, wipe front to back, and you can also try D-Mannose, which seems to work for me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
