Mirena IUD--ever have one? tell me about your experience, plz.?!

Question: Mirena IUD--ever have one!? tell me about your experience, plz!.!?
I'm 45, not menopausal, or even premenopausal, but i have ridiculously heavy periods that are getting fewer and fewer days apart!. Saw a specialist, had a D&C, back in March, hasn't helped lighten them up at all!. I really wanted a hysterectomy but its almost like you have to 'deserve' them, if you know what i mean!. I'm not a good candidate for the laser thingy that stops your period, as I have fibroids, in fact a couple are quite large!. Sorry, I can't recall the technical name for this!. The only other option both the specialist and my family dr recommend is the Mirena IUD, not so much for the birth control, but apparently it should lighten your period and in some cases the IUD has made periods completely disappear!. so of course I get on the internet and find a forum all about it and some of the stories are *yikes*! some are terrible!. please tell me about your experience with it, including, how long have you had it, your age, ever had an IUD before, etc!. Thanks so much for answeringWww@Answer-Health@Com

The reason why you've heard so many bad things about Mirena is because people are more likely to talk about the bad experiences than the good!.

If you do your research, you'll learn that there are side effects but most are mild and will lessen or dissappear completely after a year or so!. You'll have to decide whether you'll want to deal with the side effects, or have a bloody fountain between your legs!.

I'm in my late 20s have just had Mirena inserted a few months ago!. The insertion was painful!. I wish I would have taken a pain killer before my appointment!. I had severe cramps for the next 24 hours, but taking Advil made it easier to bear!.

A week or so later, I noticed that my skin became REALLY oily!. I had to go shopping for facial cleansers, moisturizers, and toners to control the oil!. I also had some lower back pain, but my husband was there to massage out the knots in my muscles!. I'm not sure if that was from the Mirena, but I can't think of any other reason why my back would be hurting!.

When it was time for my period to come, it was really light!. I had a little brown spotting for a few days, and that's it!. However, my situation was opposite to yours!. My periods were irregular!.

So far, I'm fine with Mirena!. It's really convenient for birth control, which is why I use it!. I haven't had it long enough to see if I stop bleeding like some people!.

I know your situation is different, but I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes i agree with the lady before i think the horror stories are from the copper one!. I had mine placed a year ago i am 20 years old!. I love it!. It was a bit uncomfortable when they put it in like bad cramps but soooo worth it!. I had a very light period the first month and spotted the second!. now my periods have totally stopped!. hope that helped!. if you have more questions i guess i'll just check back!.

oh wow well that sucks!.!.i havent heard anything bad until that!. everybody i knw is getting one, thats doesnt make you feel good about it!. i guess all you can do is try it and if its not for you get it removed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well!.!.!.!. im 19, i have 2 kids, and i have had the mirena sence april!. I know it's not long but i have liked it!. The first month i had it put in, i had a normal period!. And also that first month i had LIGHT spotting!. Sence then i have not had a period or spotting!. But i do occasionally get cramps, but who doesnt lol, all in all i recamend it!. I think some of the horror stories you heard befor could have been from people who have the copper iud, that is completly diffrent!. my sister has that and has horrible bleeding from it, along with cramps and everything else!. Anyways, good luck, and i bet you'll be happy with it lol!Www@Answer-Health@Com

well I'm 19!.!.!.!.!.and what surprises me about your story is our doctors told us two different things!.!.!.!.!.i was told that people with extremely heavy periods ARE NOT good candidates for the IUD because of the possibility of it being moved!. BUT as for my experience (and I'm so not trying to scare you)

i got one a little over a month ago!.!.!.!.!.!.it hurt like crazy going in!.!.!.so much that they had to have a nurse put a wet towel on my head to keep me from passing out!. (i also have a low pain tolerance)!. then it was non stop pain from there!. i was taking pain meds everyday, and laying in the fetal position trying not to cry!.!.!.!.!.

to be more specific, it felt like a mix between really bad period cramps and bad gas!.!.!.!.!.

then 5 days later my cervix was so swollen that i could feel it only a 1/2 inch inside my vagina!.!.!.!.!.!.so i went in to the doctor!.!.!.!.!.

and what do you know!.!.!.!.!.the mirena was trying its hardest to come out!.!.!.!.!.i guess my uterus and the mirena didn't get along!.!.!.!.

getting it taken out was a breeze, and i was back to normal in a few days!.!.!.!.!.!.

now I'm on the pill!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
