The most fertile period is usually from 5 days befor to 2 days after ovulation!. That is from about day 9 to day 16 of the cicle!. Or 19 to 12 days before the expected menstruation!.
This is of assuming that ovulation occurs exactly at the middle of a 28 day the cycle, which is not always the case!. Even for women who usually have a regular cycle, there is no guarantee that it will always last the same number of days, nor that ovulation will always occur on the same day!.
Usually, trying to determine fertile periods by calendar only is not a very good method, and it is not very effective for avoiding pregnancies!.
If you are trying to conceive, there are ways to know the time of ovulation with fairly good accuracy, such as monitoring your body temperature and cervical mucus!.
