Do you think its ok for a GP to test for an STD without advising the patient?!

Question: Do you think its ok for a GP to test for an STD without advising the patient!?
I had a smear last week, and the nurse also took two other swabs as ive had some bleeeding between periods!. She insinuated that they were to test for any infection causing the bleeding, so I didnt think anymore of it!.

Yesterday I went to my GP for my results and some painkillers, he said that one of the swabs had come back ok, with no sign of infection, and "the chlamydia one hasnt come back yet!"

I was really shocked - Ive been married for 15 years, I dont sleep around and never have, I thought that I should have been at least asked if I wanted to be tested for it!

It doesnt bother me much, I just would have like to have been asked or at least told what I was being tested for!. I feel like my GP is assuming I lead some kind of wild hedonistic lifestyle!

Do you think the patient should be informed!? would have thought this was the norm to inform the patient, at least!

Maybe Dr!. Frank is around and can explain!.!.!.

Well here is the conundrum in all of this!.!.!.!.

I am a huge proponent of totally honest and open communication between doctor and patient!. And when a patient tells me that they're sexually faithful and could have zero chance of an STD, then they're probably telling the truth on the first part!. It's the second part that is the rub!.

OK, let's say you're my patient and you tell me this!. You have a vaginal issue that could be caused by infection, or even STDs!. I know you, I know you don't sleep around!. BUT!.!.!. how well do I know your husband!? Even if you don't sleep around, does he!? Maybe he was unfaithful just once, who knows!? And maybe he picked up chlamydia or gonorrhea or god knows what!. If I miss that, YOU pay the price!.!.!. and depending on your attitude, I may pay the price too, via being sued!.

Yes, it's OK to do this testing just to rule out any possibility, it's safe medicine!.!.!.!. and you're talking minimal cost!. He probably should have just kept it to himself, as the knowledge that you were tested made you uncomfortable and unhappy!. But dear, he was not judging you or your morals!. He was covering all the bases!. Really!.

i recently got tested for chlamydia following a termination, i had to sign a form consenting the doctor to test for s!.t!.i's including h!.i!.v, as if you test possible the doctor is required to pass the information on to the department of human services!.!.!. it seems bizaare that your doctor didnt inform you of the tests he was carrying out on you!.!. id consider changing!Www@Answer-Health@Com

she said they were testing for infections of which chlamydia is one so she did tell you!.!.!.!.!.why would an std one bother you!.!.!.!.!.some can stay dormant for years and anyone can catch them without being promiscuous!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Like they are really intrested in your lifestyle!? It's probably just procedural!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

she did say they were testing for possible infections, but yes they problably should have told you what ones!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They said they were testing for infections and that is an infection!Www@Answer-Health@Com

They did tell you- what do you think 'infections' are!?

Anyone can get an STD, you don't have to sleep around- you just need to have slept with ONE person!.

Also some 'STD''s aren't always just sexually transmitted!.

Chlamydia is on the rise and its irresponible not to ever get tested, would you rather know and get treated or not know- and become ill and sterile!?

Being tested for an STD doesn't hurt anything but the pride of bigoted fools who swear they could never have the disease and are actually the ones spreading it!.

Do you get upset when they take a blood test and you don't realise they've checked your chloresterol!? Perhaps you should ask for details next time, or even try reading your medical history- which will probably give you more to stress over!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they dont always mention anything because they think the patient isnt going to be honest but they could still have an std, usually they just do them anyway just to rule it out otherwise there isnt much point in the other tests!. its usually a common reason for having bleeding between periods!. maybe you talk to your doctor about this and explain that you arent happy they done it without your consent, as in the past when i have been tested i had to sign something to agree!. i had bleeding between periods now and again and i had pelvic inflammatory disease, this is also why they have to test you for chlamydia as this can be a cause for pid but in my case it wasnt!. good luck and i hope everything is ok!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
