Do I Have TSS If I Left a Super Tampon In More Than 8 Hours?!

Question: Do I Have TSS If I Left a Super Tampon In More Than 8 Hours!?
I'm 14 years old!. Last night I put in the super tampon that I took from my mum!. I slept fine, about 10 hours and when I woke up I got the tampon out!. So I was reading on the internet about TSS and wondered if I got it because I left a tampon in more than 8 hours, and it was a super tampon!. Please help, I'm so scaredWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
First off- calm down!.

TSS, or toxic shock syndrome, is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina, and has been associated with tampons, especially super tampons!.

Leaving a tampon in for more than 8hrs INCREASES the risk, but does not GUARANTEE that you have the syndrome!. If you have any of the symptoms (headaches!.!.!. nausea!.!.!. cramps) please see a medical professional as soon as possible as this disease can be potentially deadly!.

In future, use tampons suited to your flow, as small as possible for your needs, and use pads at night!.

Hope you're OKWww@Answer-Health@Com

Ok firstly dont panic!. It is true that you should change your tampon atleast every 4 hours!. You should definatly not sleep with one in, in the future!. They make great overnight pads these days and since you are not doing anything but sleeping there is no reason you cant use them and be comfortable!. In the future also try to use the smallest size tampon you can for your flow!. Some brands even make mini ones!
You do not automatically have TSS just because you did this!. Just keep an eye on how you are feeling over the next week or so and if you are feeling sick at all with a fever then go to the doctor asap and dont forget to tell them about the tampon as it is important they have all the information!. There is a good chance you are absolutely fine tho, just take a lesson from it and be more careful in future!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think that you should be scared!. At night maybe your best bet is to use a pad!. If you are up and about during the day use the tampons but change a lot!.i think that you should talk to a doctor or the school nurse to ease your mind!.
I would think that if you do not have any symptoms of tss that you are ok!.
But to be on the safe side you can talk to the nurse or doctor!.

If you left in in longer than 8 hours you are at a greater risk, but really do NOT panic!.
I have a friend who accidently left hers in for 7 days and had to get it removed - surgically :| but did not get TSS!.

So don't assume you do just cos you left it in, but as the others said make sure you do not have the symptoms, if you do go to your GP :) but definatley change it every 4-8 hours!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
