Question: First OBGYN visit ever !?!?!?
I am 19 years old and this is my first OBGYN visit!. I've had visits with regular family doctors but since I'm away from home at school, I'm going to be going to an OBGYN by where I live!. !.

Don't worry about!.
First they may ask you to put on a gown, and then they will most likely feel around your breasts just to check for any abnormalities!.
Next is the pelvic exam which is what most girls worry about but its not as bad as you might think (trust me i know)!.
First they will do the external part of the exam and have a look and feel on your external genatalia to check for any abnormalties; they will then put 1 or 2 fingers into your vagina and have a feel around!.
Next will most likely be the bimanual exam, this is where they insert to fingers and feel from the outside with the other hand!.
They may then do a rectovaginal exam, this involves putting 1/2 fingers (with lubrication) into your anus and 2 fingers from the other hand into your vagina where they will have a good feel around!.
Next is the most uncomfortable bit (but not too bad), a pap smear!. They will insert a speculum and open it up and then take a sample of cells from your cervix using something that looks like a lolly stick, it stings but its ok and you may get spotting for a day or 2 afterwards!.

Just try to relax while you are there!. Bring family history of anything relating to OBGYN problems or anything in the past!. You should expect medical history questions, basic vital signs (blood pressure, etc!.), and the infamous exam--the spectulum that they insert down there will be cold, but if you just relax, it won't hurt too much, and it's only maybe 10 seconds while the OBGYN takes a swab to make sure you don't have any abnormal cervical cells!.!.!. they also do a breast exam which takes 10 seconds as well, just to make sure there are no abnormal lumps!. The best thing you can do while you are there is breathe deeply and relax and it'll be done before you know it!Www@Answer-Health@Com
The doc will do a thorough breast and lymph node exam!.!.Usually a rectal as well!.!.
If you are a virgin they wont use a spectrum!.If not they will gently insert a spectualum and examine your cervix!.!.possibly(not likely) do a pap smear(take a pick of tissue for an exam)
Also if male doctor there will always be a nurse in the room for your comfort level and you'll be well draped for privacy!.
NOTHING is painful!.!.just some women get embarrassed!.
Best bet: relax, hum, breathe through your nose!.!.It's a 1,2,3, done kinda thing and we all go through it!.!.If they do a pap!.!.its a little pinch feeling!.!.Not painful!.!.

If its for a regular PAP smear, don't worry!. I was worried about my first time but it was nowhere near as bad as thought it was going to be!. She will just insert a clamp into you and take swab from your cervix, its a bit uncomfortable, but it doesn't hurt!. Its embarrassing more than anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
She'll probably take a pap smear!. They're really uncomfortable and you might have some bleeding, but just spotting!. She'll do a pelvic exam!. Speculums hurt me, but everyone is different!. KY help(ed/s)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
