My daughter started menstrating....? No women in our life to help....?!

Question: My daughter started menstrating!.!.!.!.!? No women in our life to help!.!.!.!.!?
Hi!
My 14 year old daughter has started menstrating in the past month (according to her)!. Her mother/my wife passed away when she was just 3 and I do not want to get re-married!.
Anywho, she does not have any older sisters or aunts to help!. Her grandmother lives in the UK and is not someone we are close to!.
I don't know how to help her!. I don't know about female pads, tampons, or napkins!. I don't know about any of the other stuff either, like breast development!.
Can anyone here help me!? Are there any books I can read!? Any other resources!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I would recommend taking her to see a female physician or pediatrician!. The doctor will be able to talk to your daughter from a medical standpoint, making it less awkward for your daughter and you!. The doctor will also be able to warn your daughter about what not to do involving tampons!. Going to www!.tampax!.com could be helpful in terms of using tampons!. I most definitely recommend using tampons, not pads!. Make sure to always communicate with your daughter!.!.!. don't make it seem like this is a subject to be avoided!. As long as you stay calm and composed, she won't be so scared!. She needs to feel like you are there for her, so give her plenty of support!. One book that I would suggest is called the Care and Keeping of You!. It can be bought for about nine dollars on amazon!. Here is the link: http://www!.amazon!.com/Care-Keeping-You-A!.!.!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, there are many things that come with the period!. Her body is going to change, and when her period is close she can have mood changes too!. Also she will experience some pain when her period is coming, like breast pain, back ache, probably head aches, cramps!. There are many types of pads and tampons!. Because is just the beginning of her having periods I would recommend to buy thin pads, you can find them in any store!. Or she can try tampons, there are many sizes mini, medium and super, it depends if her period is heavy or not!. Other thing you can do is just Google it!.!.!. you will find a lot of information on the internet!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, there are books!. It's how I learned!. You can get them at your local library or book store!. You may want to try these books:
-The Period Book: Everything You Don't Want to Ask (But Need to Know)
-Period!. A Girl's Guide

As for pads and tampons!.!.!.I recommend pads!. She needs to get used to the change before she tries tampons!. When she is ready for tampons (Which should be in a year or two), you should get her Tampax pearl, or Playtex sport!. These are the most comfortable!. DO NOT get her cardboard applicators!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Here are a few sites to look at:

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Menstrual_p!.!.!.
http://womenshealth!.about!.com/od/menstru!.!.!.
Periods are a natural part of life for half the population!. It might be embarrassing for her to talk to you about it because you are male!. Some young girls are very shy about those sort of things!. Look in your library or Google around on the internet!. There is a lot of information on the internet about periods!.
I would suggest that you buy her pads once a month, or she might prefer to buy them herself!. Basically, pads/napkins are thin, cotton-y things that you put into the crotch of your underwear to catch the blood!. Tampons are "plugs" of cotton that are inserted into the vagina to internally absorb the blood!. It is best that she start with pads, as they are easier to use, and then move on to tampons if she wants to!. However, tampons are the only form of protection that can be worn for swimming, and might be better for your daughter to use if she plays sports!.
And I suggest you have her go with a female friend or adult to buy bras if she doesn't have them already!.
Don't worry, I'm sure your daughter already knows about periods!. Just try to inform yourself and be there for support if she needs it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i'm very sorry to hear of your wife's passing, so important for a young lady to have her mom but never fear, a dad can be just as comforting, my mom has been ill my whole life and when that delicate subject came up i said dad i need some sanitary pads and he said ok, he bought them, there are many brands always, kotex, stayfree, thin pads are best more comfortable, make sure she has pain medicine in the house and carries it with her those cramps are killer, and just always be a listening ear, love her you'll be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try the website below!.!.!. It may help her out with any questions she may have!. But she really does need to talk to someone!.!.!. Just reading something doesn't really help a kid out!. If she has someone she trusts and can talk to, let her talk to them!. It's better to get all of your questions answered iof your talking to a person!. But I hope the website helps a littleWww@Answer-Health@Com

i would recommend you go to barnes and nobles and find some books!. go find some sales clerk lady walking around and explain your sitiuation!. im sure she would be more than happy to help!.theve been thru this too!. hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Get a lady doctor to advise her!.!.!. I'm sure the doctor will help!. Preferably a gynae!. She could be advised on everything including maintaining cleanliness!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

oki take yo girl shopen 2 the nearest drugstore or walmart and u will see tampons and pads and she will know what 2 pick up!.ask her if she wants 2 take one of her friends that happens 2 be a girl 2 go bra shoping with her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

um you can go to www!.kidshealth!.com or www!.beinggirl!.comWww@Answer-Health@Com

Good luck, this can be hard!. Someone mentioned the book "The Care and Keeping of You" this book is fabulous!. It will tell her everything she needs to know about "womanly" stuff as well hygene in general and how to stay healthy!. It also includes info on breasts and how to shop for bras!. I highly recommend it, and I also recommend the website www!.beinggirl!.com
The website is sponsered by two companies that make feminine products, and it has someone who answers questions!. (Her name is Iris!.) It has articles on periods and advice for everything!.

My first instruction for you would be to go to the store, and buy some pads!. I suggest Always brand!. As for the type, that's just common sense, there is no special type to get!. There's different types for the woman, so she can be as comfortable as possible!.

Second, you should go to a book store and find "The Care and Keeping Of You" and look through!. If you seem to like the book just buy it for your daughter, and possibly read through it just to understand what's happening!.

Maybe you should take her to a counsellor, like a psyhciatrist, just so she has someone to talk to about this stuff who might be able to help her out more, or maybe you have a good friend who is female who can talk to her!. Whatever you feel you need to do, try it!. Good luck!

PS, she can email me if she wants!. I'm 14, and just started my period yesturday!. Sounds like we have a lot in common!. My email is mayamayaz@yahoo!.com!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
