Ovulation, Pregnancy, Plan B, Periods????!

Question: Ovulation, Pregnancy, Plan B, Periods!?!?!?!?
My husband and I have protected sex, in the future Id like that to change!. As of now I dont want kids!.!. so Im wondering!. Ive heard from my mother (who was a serrogate mother) that its impossible to get pregnant when you arent ovulating!.!.!. Is this true!?

Also my periods have been sort of irregular lately my last 4 were:
02/21/08
03/17/08
04/19/08
05/19/08

My next period according to mymonthlycycles!.com should have been June 17th!. Well recently (5 days ago, June 16th to be exact) My husband and I had a little oopsie with our condom!.

I took plan B and I think that it messed up my cycle!. I just got done taking a pregnancy test and it came up negative, Im having period symptoms breast tenderness and some mild cramping, also some pimples popping up which is my normal routine!.

So what I want to know is how long does plan B mess up your cycle for and why!?

And also I want answers to my other questions!. I hope Ive been as detailed as possible in describing my situation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi there!

Firstly I wanted to reassure you that the timing of your 'oopsie' is very unlikely to cause pregnancy!. Having an 'accident' this late in your period means there's a chance the egg would have already died!.

Plan B is emergency contraception, it contains high doses of synthetic progesterone, which is bound to affect your cycle!. In fact mentrual changes are one of the listed side effects!.
As long as you took both tablets, at the prescribed time, then you should be fine!. But if your period doesn't arrive in a week then you need to contact the Dr who prescribed it for you as there are important things he needs to rule out!.

I've had a look at your cycle lengths and they are a little irregular!. 24 days, 32, 29 and this one is currently about 33!. In terms of Drs, they do like our periods to be regular!. However, it doesn't mean that you can't get pregnant if they're not regular, it just means it will be more difficult to plan when your fertile time is!.

Women ovulate and are therefore most fertile around 14 days BEFORE their period arrives (not after as someone has said here)!. The time from when you ovulate, until you get your period is called the luteal phase, the luteal phase needs to be around 12 to 16 days long to give your body the best chance of nurturing the fertilised egg!.

The best way to monitor when you ovulate is to use OPK's (ovulation prediction kits), you can buy them from your pharmacist and many large supermarkets stock them now too!.

Combining the OPK's with using a cycle-charting website is an excellent way of knowing when your most fertile time is, and the more inforamtion you can give them the more accurate their prediction is likely to be!.

Now with taking your temperature!. There's no reason why your low body temp would cause it to be innacurate, using a basal thermometer measures tiny increments in temperture, and these would happen with you just the same as anyone else!. But I'd hold off on taking your temperature at the moment, start that when you actually start trying for a baby!.

I hope I haven't typed too much, it's kinda my specialist subject! But I hope I've helped!

I wish you lots and lots of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes it is possible to get pregnant while your not ovulating!. You ovulate about 2 weeks after you have your period!.If you take anything to prevent you from getting pregnant it will screw up you cycle, because its like a hormone going into your body!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In health class, they tell you that you can get pregnant at any time, from experience it is most likely only when you're ovulating and that is still hard depending on your age!. Plan B does mess up your cycle but if you read any of their ads or their website should have this info too just to check the statistics, your period shouldn't be more than 7 days late, if it is consider pregnancy, since you aren't pregnant you shouldn't be worried!. Your body should end up going back to normal after the hormonal stress Plan B has put it under!. If your period is more than 2 weeks late, I would suggest going to an obgyn!. Additionally, your next period maybe lighter or heavier than normal, so be prepared for some temporary changes while your body goes back into homeostasis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
