Answers:
Most people who suffer from bulimia are not overweight nor do they lose weight!. Bulimia is not about food or weight!. There is always another reason why someone chooses to binge and purge!. It can sometimes be very hard to know when someone is bulimic, as they are very, very secretive and are masters at 'covering their tracks!.' Of course the most obvious sign to look for is if she's going to the bathroom during a meal or just after finishing one, on a regular basis!.!.!. She chooses to use a bathroom upstairs or any one other then the nearest one!.!.!. Watering, red eyes when she comes out of the bathroom!.!.!.!. Eating large amounts of food many times a day and not gaining weight!.!.!.!. Coming from the bathroom chewing gum or having just used mouthwash or frequently sucking on breath mints!.!.!. Brushing her teeth many times a day!. Sometimes there might be an old toothbrush always laying around that no one uses around!. Many people use toothbrushes to stick down their throats to induce vomiting!.!.!.!. Always brings a toothbrush with her if she goes out to eat!. Ponytail holders hanging on the doorknobs if she has long hair!.!.!. Splatter around the bottom of the comode and the walls!. She doesn't want to go out or spend time with friends or family as much as she used to!.!.!. Is having problems with cavities more then normal!.!.!. Her hair has gotten thin and brittle!.!.!. Frequent problems with her throat!.!.!. Taking laxatives everyday in large amounts!. These are some of the things I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure if you do research there are many other signs as well!. Most of these things are not something that will draw attention, unless you are specifically looking for them and that is probably a contributing factor to people being bulimic for years without anyone knowing!. As far as confronting her, that's a really tricky thing!. You definitely should confront her I think, but please remember that the hardest thing for someone who is bulimic to do, is to admit it to others, for fear of no longer having the option to binge and purge!. And almost certainly she will deny it with a vengeance and probably get angry with you as well!. I don't know the best approach to take, but one thing I can say without a doubt, is that when you do approach her, please don't do it in an accusing manner and above all, don't say anything to try and make her feel guilty about being bulimic!. You can't guilt someone into stopping and believe me, she is feeling enough guilt on her own!. The most important thing to say to someone who is bulimic in my opinion is, "THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT"!. Then try your best to get her into counseling!. She has a disease and she needs to get help!. Bulima is a horrible disease and a vicious cycle and can consume someone's entire life!. It also can kill you!. I wish you and your friend nothing but the absolute best of luck and even though I don't know you personally, will keep you both in my prayers!. She's lucky to have a friend who cares!. Just keep being her friend!. She's going to need ALOT of support from her family and friends to get through this!. But she can get through it, there is help out there and there is Life After Bulimia!. I'm living proof of that!. God Bless!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
