Pap smear question.?!

Question: Pap smear question!.!?
I am going to be getting my yearly pap smear in a week or so and was wondering if you have been exposed to an STD how long it takes to show up in results!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It depends on which STD!. The longest one to show up on a test is HIV, which takes 6 weeks to 6 months!. Other STDs show up quicker, sometimes within a week or two!. So the best idea if you might have been exposed, is to ask your doctor to test you for "everything" when you get your pap smear!. Get an HIV test too, which is a blood draw!. Then go back to your doctor to repeat the tests in 3 months if you aren't having any symptoms!. If you think something is wrong, go back sooner!. And use condoms every time in the meanwhile, so you don't put yourself at so much risk again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The pap smear does not test for STDs!. It checks for abnormality in your cervical and vaginal cells!. These changes are most often caused by HPV, which is sexually transmitted!. If your doctor decides to do vaginal cultures where he/she swabs your cervix/vagina (which they will do on request, some do it as standard for gonorrhea and chlamydia), then it can take anywhere from 2 days to two weeks depending on the lab that handles the specimens!. This also depends on whether you were recently exposed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it depends on the std!.

It is usualy hard to catch HPV but when they do it's because it has caused cell changes in your cervix, and for this to happen you've usually been exposed to the virus for some months!. It really just depends on the std tho!.!.!. i mean HIV doesn't show up in test till after you've already had it 1 year!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sometimes as quick as 2-5 days, others may take 30 days or longer!. Check out this web site http://www!.cdc!.gov/std/

You can see a fact sheet with the detection time for each STD!.

Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com
