Cephalexin SIDE EFFECTS?!

Question: Cephalexin SIDE EFFECTS!?
My girlfriend recently began taking Cephalexin (anti-biotic) for a strep throat infection she has!. She began this medicine on Friday (June 20th) and now has a strange (what we THINK might be) side effect!.

She has begun to have vaginal dryness, itchiness, and it is difficult for her to go urinate without it bothering her!.

Can this be a side effect of the Cephalexin!?

Has anyone else experienced this!?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated!.

Oh and what can help the vaginal dryness!?
She is REALLY uncomfortable!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, that is a very very common side effect--it's a yeast infection!. She has this because the Cephalexin killed off the "good" bacteria that normally live in her vagina and keep the yeast from growing too much!. She can expect it to get itchier and itchier!. She can also give someone she's having sex with the yeast infection, though the sexual partner might have no symptoms, but rather just give it back to her if he/she then, untreated, has sex with her after she's been treated!. So the sexual partner might need treatment!. She shouldn't be having sex while having a yeast infection anyway, because her vagina is irritated and it will hurt, more and more as the yeast infection gets worse!. The solution is for her to get a prescription from her doctor for Diflucan or a similar anti-yeast pill!. She might have to wait till she's done the Cephalexin, else the yeast infection will just come back!. But I'm not sure about that--the doctor will tell her!. She could also go to a drugstore and buy an over-the-counter product like Monistat, to cure the yeast infection!. They have a 1-day dose, but frankly that dose seldom is strong enough to completely get rid of the yeast, so she may have to do the 3-day or 7-day dose!. But, again, I don't know if the yeast infection will come back if she starts the treatment while she's still taking Cephalexin!. In any case, the over-the-counter stuff will definitely ease her discomfort for now, while she's still taking the Cephalexin!. It'll keep the yeast growth down, and the over-the-counter products usually come with an extra small tube of Monistat that she can put on her vulvar area to ease itching and pain!. So basically what I'm saying is to call the doctor and tell him/her she has a yeast infection, and start using a product NOW to cure it, since she's clearly in discomfort and there's no need to suffer!. But she might need to repeat the process after the antibiotic is done!. And she can bet on the same thing happening every time she takes an antibiotic, from now on!.

Oh, and yogurt with "active, live cultures" has the good bacteria in it, so she should eat that!. Or she can go to a Whole Foods or other store that sells vitamins and supplements and get "digestive enzymes!." That may ease symptoms, or prevent problems with her stomach, because just as the Cephalexin kills the good bacteria in the vagina, it kills the good digestive enzymes in the digestive tract, so some get stomach aches!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
