Although no study has been done on menstruating women, the finely tuned senses of a pelagic shark such as the great White (used as an example as it is the species most often associated with shark bites, though if I remember correctly Bull Sharks not Great Whites are to blame for most shark bites off the coasts of Florida!.) can smell a drop of blood from over a kilometer away!. In my eyes it is therefore quite logical to believe that sharks are more likely to be attracted to menstruating women but two points should be raised here!. First is that enough of the womens blood would have to be free to reach the outside of the body which is unlikely unless she is in heavy flow and has insufficient 'protection' (such as wearing a pad to swim in rather than the correct absorbency of tampon for your flow!.)!. Secondly, just because the shark is attracted to the female does NOT mean automatically that it will attempt a bite!.

I agree with the others, do not under any circumstances swim in a pad!. It is unsanitary and can lead to a very embarassing situation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you can't swim with a pad on
it will swell up and the blood will leak out into the water
if you're going to swim you have to wear a tampon
and sharks are attracted to blood
so if you wear a tampon you won't bleed in the waterWww@Answer-Health@Com
