What exactly is nausea!? I know it's like when you feel like your going to throw-up, but when you experience nausea is it in your stomach or what!? For me (i guess this isn't called nausea then) it feels like I'm going to gag like in my throat like I'm going to throw-up but I never do!. Does anyone know what this is called!? Is it nausea or what because my stomach does not feel upset! HELP!!!!!! THANKS!!!!!!

Hi Katy,
Nausea is caused when something irritates the lining of the stomach!. It could be a virus, bacteria (food poisoning) or even a strong reaction to certain sights and smells that cause certain chemicals to be released!. Sometime cold food and drink can make nausea worse, so can spicy food!.
If your stomach gets REALLY irritated, it will clench kind of like your fist!. when it does this, some stomach acid and whatever else is in there will be forced a little ways back up toward your mouth!.!.!. This is what causes that feeling like you're gagging or about to throw up!.
More clenching (again made worse by cold liquids, spicy food, or carbonated pop), will result in you throwing up!.
Sometimes the real cause is down in your intestines, but the upset travels upwards and gets your stomach involved as well!. In those cases you might get gut cramps and diarrhea too!.!.!.
The best over the counter medicine is pepto-bismol!.!.!. most pharmacies have a generic pill version so you don't have to drink that nasty stuff (CVS and Wal-Mart at least carry it)!. If you get diarrhea, try Immodium (or the generic loperimide 2mg)!.
You can try letting it run it course, but don't wait too long to take something because you can get dehydrated!. Sipping warm Gatorade can help calm the stomach and replace lost fluids!. If it goes on for more than a day, you need to see a doctor!.

I know what your talking about but I don't know what it's called!.!.!.But usually when you are going to throw up when you have that feeling you get signs first!.!.!.
1) your mouth starts to water like a faucet!
2) Then your head feels like it's filled with cotton!.!.Basically, you get light headed

well i get light headed and i almost black out when i am in the shower and stuff like that, but nausea is the state that precedes vomiting ,disgust so strong it makes you feel sick!. thats all it is, it only happens to me when i dont drink enough liquids:)Www@Answer-Health@Com
Anytime you feel like you're going to throw up, whether from an upset stomach or gagging, that is still considered nausea!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
