Abnormal mammogram?!
Question: Abnormal mammogram!?
They said there is a dusting of calcium, but must have a biopsy!. What does calcium have to do with suspect cancer cells!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
Most women have calcium deposits in their breasts!. Large deposits are called macrocalcifications, and these are always benign (not cancerous)!. Small deposits are called microcalcifications!. Many types of microcalcifications are benign, but some can be an indication of DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ)!. If the microcalcifications are clustered or branching, the probability of breast cancer is higher!. A biopsy is the only way to determine if these calcifications are resulting from a malignant or benign condition!.
"Suspicious microcalcifications, on the other hand, vary in shape, size, form and density and are usually clustered in a linear or segmental pattern!. Most DCIS appears as microcalcifications on a mammogram!. While microcalcifications are not DCIS, they can be an indication that DCIS is present!."
