Can I ask this to my doctor?!

Question: Can I ask this to my doctor!?
I have to go get my physical soon and I'm 16-female!. I have really bad periods!. The first day I have pain that is unbearable!. I'm usually curled up in a ball and I pretty much have to O!.D on meds to make the pain go away!. They also come about every 20-more/less days!. And I also get ovarian cysts which are really painful!.

Question is-would I be able to ask my doctor if I could get birth control to make the cysts go away and to help with the extremely painful periods!? Or would they refer me to a gynecologist!? I would feel weird asking them, especially because I'm a teenager-I wouldn't want them thinking I want it because I want sex!. I only want it because my periods are so bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you should definitely tell your doctor all about this!. They won't automatically assume you just want to have sex -- and if they do, you need to find a doctor who isn't a big ol' butthead anyway! It's likely the cramps and frequency of your periods are normal -- it's not uncommon for young women to have terrible cramps and irregular periods and this all usually evens out as you get a bit older!. But in the meantime, you shouldn't have to suffer OR risk OD'ing on pain medication just to get through your period every 20 days!. That's outrageous and any doctor with a smidge of compassion will work hard to help find a solution for you!.

Please talk to your mom or dad and tell them you want to see a doctor to ask for help!. And then I would just explain your symptoms to the doctor without mentioning the birth control pills (you can't diagnose yourself anyway!) and see what they say!. Don't let them brush you off!

Good luck and hang in there, okay!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Definately ask your doctor!!! You sound very articulate and mature, just tell them that you want to go on the pill to help the horrible pain you experience on your period, they will gladly try to help you!.

Just remember, thats what the doctor is there for - to help, not criticize, it's against their oath as a doctor to criticize a patient for any reasons of wanting to do anything!. I would ask, you seem like you are in a lot of pain, you need to relieve that!. And no they won't refer you to a gynaecologist!. I have been on the pill for 3 years and have never been to a gynaecologist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I feel so bad for you; been through the same pain!. Used to get sick to my stomach the first day and missed work!. Nasty times! Anyway, the best way to approach the issue is not to ask to be put on birth control; but to relate your symptoms and pain and then let the doctor decide if you should be on anything to help with the pain!. I was put on codine for pain, but that did not help!. It may take a few trys to find something that will give you relief!. I wish you the best!Www@Answer-Health@Com

First yes talk to your doctor and if they feel there needs to be further testing they will either order the tests themselves or send you to a gynecologist!. Also ask them to test you for PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)!. They usually like to see what your hormone levels are inorder to find you a better fitting birthcontrol pill!. good luck don't be shy - trust me doctors have heard it all - i have worked in the medical field for over 6 years!. Take care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is absolutely no question you should be afraid to ask a doctor for fear of embarrassment!.

Even if you ONLY wanted the pills to keep from getting pregnant, judging you is not his job!. Keeping you safe and healthy is what he gets paid to do!.

If you want to cut out the extra doctor appointment (and the extra office visit fee) I'd skip the middleman and just make an appointment to see an OB/GYN first!.

Tell him everything!. Only open communication with your medical professional can insure your health and well-being!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ya most definitly ask your doctor!!! if your periods are as bad as you say they are it can be dangerous to continue the cycle without some sort of meds!. since he is already going to give you a pap he should just provide you with the birth control!. make sure and tell the doctor everything, where it hurts and how long the cramps last for!. ANOTHER good thing might be to get some midol and try it out!! good luck :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would explain the situation to your doctor!. Then they will recommend you to an obgyn!. If they hear about the pain you go through they won't judge you!. My cousin started taking it when she was 14 because she had problems with her period to!. She would bleed through 3 pads at a time!. It could regulate it for you!. And the doctor will be able to tell you if you need something else to help!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dont suggest on ur doctor soultions for ur situation, tell m what u want exactly and he ll give u the solution, such like tell him u av bad period pain ,,and he ll give u the right medicine,,!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah I know several people that their doctor gave them birth control for a similar problem!. You should be fine!. But yeah that sounds bad!. I hope a doctor can help you! :]Www@Answer-Health@Com

birth control wont make the cysts go away but it might give you lighter periods as far as the pain that might not be normalWww@Answer-Health@Com

I'd day go to the gynecologist!. They k now more about it then the doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

if you are experiencing that much pain, you should definately talk to the doctor!. They will probably refer you to the gynecologist, which is a good thing since you shouldn't have to suffer so much!. The doctor usually asks sexual history and will know you want bc for cramps and not for sex, but they wouldn't care either way as long as it's in you best health interest!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can ask your doctor anything!. They are there to help you, not judge you!. If you talk to them about your painful cycle, and request birth control pills they will refer you to a gyno only because they need a specialist to make sure something serious isn't going on in your reproductive system!. I know young girls are scared about going to the Gyno, when I first went I was petrified, but they know that and do the best they can to make you comfortable!.

Also, if you have an older female you feel comfortable talking to that may help too, and make going the doctor and asking your personal questions a little easier!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
