Yes when they first put it in it hurts!. You will have a lot of cramping like when you are on a heavy period!. Taking Advil or Motrin before hand helps!. After that it's probably one of the easiest birth control methods out of there!. You need to be in a monogamous relationship and your partner needs to be monogamous as well because you are more susceptible to infection!. I have had mine for 7 years now and have had no problems with it other than the very beginning it fell part way out and they had to replace it!. It is also recommended that you have had at least one child before having an IUD put in and realize too that this is a long term solution for birth control!. Definitely talk to your doc about it as he will know more about the risk factors and whether or not you should have one put in!. Also, it has copper wire wrapped around it which is a natural spermicide and while yes it does prevent a fertilized egg from planting on the uterine wall it is not like it would happen every month every time you had a period!. It is like any other birthcontrol and there is a risk of pregnancy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
My wife had one - said it hurt like crazy and was generally uncomfortable and crampy for as long as she had it!. She had one years ago that caused an internal infection too, so be aware of that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's uncomfortable but not sore!. You will feel really crampy for a couple of days afterwards!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
