Yes, I'm sorry to report that it most definitely can cause you to go into menopause!. At age 40 this happened to me!. The Dr did not advise me that this can happen prior to the procedure and I'm so angry!. I'm now almost 45 and still haven't been able to balance my hormones!. The last 5 years have been a real struggle!. I had at least 15 symptoms from joint pain, depression, pre-mature aging, memory/concentration problems, weight gain in my waist, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, low libido, etc!. I've read about 20 books on the subject of menopause, hormone balance, pre-mature menopause and surgical-induced menopause!. I am taking bio-identical hormone replacement - estrogen and progesterone which I believe are safer!. My approach is to avoid medicines and go with hormones that are found in your body!. I am also taking bio-identical thyroid hormone to help w/ weight!. You will have to make your own choices once you learn more about your options!. Also, not taking replacement hormones can lead to osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease (high cholesterol), diabetes, depression and other diseases!. Through the reading I have done, I have learned that menopause can come early to those who have only one artery supplying blood to the ovary(through) the tube - estimated 4% of population who have immediate menopause upon a TL!. For others, it happens w/ in 2 years due to diminished blood flow to the ovaries - which is what happened to me!. Unfortunately, Drs don't warn patients that this is a possible outcome because they make money from the procedure, and with only 4% going into immediate menopause - the Drs take the chance, and others going into menopause a couple of years later - the Drs claim the procedure has nothing to do with it!. After a patient goes into menopause the drs make money trying to get them balanced!. One other bit of information is that the symptoms surgical menopause can be much more severe than they normally would be because our bodies are younger and the hormones decline sharply - similar to a young person going through a hsterectomy!. I recommend that you get on the web - research as much as you can and go to amazon and get a few books on the subject of hormonal imbalance/menopause!. I advise you to take your health into your own hands!. Also, it is so important is to find a doctor who will listen to you and help you through this process which may take you a while to sort out!. My heart goes out to you!.!.!. I wish you good luck!. - M
Also, there is a great website called 'survivors of surgical menopause' where you can find a ton of information and support from women who have similar problems!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
