Question: IUD as birth control!?
Has anyone here ever used an IUD for birth control!? If so, what kind!? And, what was it like!? Did you experience any negative side effects!?

There are 2 types of IUD available today!. One is the Mirena, the other is the Copper T!.
The Mirena releases hormones and is good for about 5 years!.
The Copper T does not release hormones and is good for about 10 years!.
The IUD is inserted into your uterus by your health professional!. A plastic string tied to the end of the IUD hangs down through the cervix into the vagina!. You can check that the IUD is in place by feeling for this string!. The string is also used by a health professional to remove the IUD!.
I had the Copper T for 10 years and it worked out perfectly!. I never had any problems with it, I pretty much forgot that it was there!. My periods did not change, my sex life did not change!. My husband did not notice any difference either!.
Having it placed and removed did not hurt, it wasn't much different from getting a pap smear taken!.
I had the IUD removed 2 months before I wanted to get pregnant!. There was no problem with conception!. I got pregnant on the 1st try with each of my 3 children!. My husband then had a vasectomy, so I no longer need birth control, otherwise I would still use it, and I would use the Copper T!.
I would not use anything with hormones in it!.

I got the mirena 3 weeks ago!. I have been bleeding since then!. However, it's normal to spot or bleed for the first three months!. It also hurt when I had sex for the first two weeks!. It gives me headaches, and I can't lose one lb since I've been on it!. After calling the dr's office they then informed like any other birth control you can experience weight gain, however, an iud is more likely to cause weight gain then the pill!. Other then that, it's okay!. I'm going to give it a few more months before taking it out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
First and foremost, check with your insurance company and see how much they will cover!. Mine didn't cover anything, and a lot of them won't because of the up front cost ($450 for Paragard, $580 for Mirena)!. I had to go the IUD route because I cannot use any hormonal birth control, so I went with the Paragard IUD which is the copper one!. I just had it inserted a week ago, just a bit of spotting but that's normal after first getting it!. Other than that I don't even feel it!.
Read up on both of them, talk to your doc and see which one would be better for you!. My doctor was hesitant to let me near the Mirena because she has taken out more than she has inserted due to what she calls 'Mirena-rage' (intense mood swings)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I got the Mirena a couple of months ago!. Placement was painful, but not unbearable!. My doctor suggested that I take 2 Motrin or Ibuprofen prior to the procedure, and I did!. As soon as he had placed it, the pain was gone!. I had very little spotting for the week after I got it!. So far, I have noticed zero side effects!. I haven't broken out, gained any weight, I don't feel moody!. Sex is better than ever, because we never have to worry!. Occassionally, I will spot some after sex, but nothing major!. I had read a lot about Mirena prior to getting it!. There is a lot of information out there!. Just remember, people are more likely to comment on something when the are unhappy, rather than when they are satisfied with something!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
yes, i have the org!. IUD!. it has its ups and downs!. i like the fact that i don't have to remember to take birth control!. and have had it now for almost three years an don't have to have it taken out till 2015!. yet, i do have a 7 day visit from aunt flow and i cramp a bit more!. but it is worth it!. and the cramps beat having another baby at this point in my life!. lol!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Yes i have the mirena!. And the only negative side effect i experienced is spotting!. But really it's not even that bad!. lol, for the first three months there can be spotting but after the first three months, you may not even get periods! and if you do they are VERY light!!! So hey what's not to love!. And my doctor told me they actually lessen menstrual cramps!. I haven't really had any so i guess it's true!. lol, and you can still wear tampons, you can still have sex however you want not speacial precautions or anything!. All in all not bad! and it does NOT cause weight gain or acne!. I have been told that is postive by a couple diffrent doctors lolWww@Answer-Health@Com
Yes!!!! I love my Mirena!. Had it 4 years!. I'll get the 10yr next time!. It was easy to have inserted!. No Problems!. I had a period to start out with!. So I was on the pill too for the first 3 months!. (but i had just had a baby too) I have not had a period in the last 4yrs!. Yes I said 4 yrs!!! This is the best form of birth control!. I love it! Oh ya and I lost weight too!. (40lbs!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com
switched from the pill injection to the traditional coil a few yrs ago and kept it for 5 yrs!. getting it inserted was horrible and for a week after had terrible cramping!. had some spotting after sex!. no other probs!. getting it removed was a doddle!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
i have had mirena for over a year and actually would like it if it weren't for the cysts i get and abnormally long periods, it has alot of plus sides though!. i had alot of pain when i got it put in, but its not that common!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had the mirena in for 4 yrs now and have had no problem at all!. I highly recommend it!. Periods are so light that it is great ! Nothing to remember to take, no weight gain, no acne!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
